MINI Cooper S Convertible
Updated for the latest generation
Based on the third-generation MINI Cooper Convertible (left), the interior and exterior have been updated to a level close to a full model change. The front mask adopts the design of the new MINI Cooper.
The fourth-generation MINI series was released in 2023. Based on that design, the brand’s only open-top model, the MINI Cooper Convertible, has undergone a major minor change. While the four-seater seating capacity and the folding soft top mechanism that can be deployed in a short time remain the same, the exterior and interior have been updated to the new generation MINI series. The soft top can be fully retracted or just the top section can be opened like a sunroof, making this a rare and unique feature among open-top models sold in the premium compact car segment. The interior is equipped with a large circular OLED display in the center, which was introduced in the new MINI series. The “Always Open Timer” continues to be used, and the display shows the open-top driving time in minutes.
The power unit lineup includes three highly efficient 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline turbos. In addition to the “MINI Cooper C Convertible” and “MINI Cooper S Convertible,” the performance model “JCW” will also be available. Stefan Richmann, head of the MINI brand, gave the following explanation about the new MINI Cooper Convertible:

Updated to the new MINI design
The design of the LED headlights and LED taillights has been updated to match the new generation of MINI, while the black handlebar strip at the rear has been replaced with a model badge instead of the MINI logo.
The new MINI Cooper Convertible features the condensed, minimalist design that is characteristic of the new MINI series. The front section features round LED headlights and a newly designed front grille. The wide air intakes and octagonal frame are surrounded by vibrant silver or gloss jet black trim.
The standard LED headlights are available with a choice of three light signatures. A welcome and goodbye animation with the “MINI” logo projected on the doors is standard. The LED taillights have also been redesigned, featuring a black handlebar strip with model badge. Horizontal lines emphasize the car’s wider stance.
The clean lines of the side section emphasize the short overhangs and long wheelbase characteristic of MINI. Despite its compact body size of 3879mm in length, 1431mm in height, and 1744mm in width, the exterior is spacious. Newly designed wheels with excellent aerodynamic properties are available in sizes from 16 to 18 inches depending on the model variation.
The soft top can be fully opened in 18 seconds
The electric soft top, available in black as standard or with a grey Union Jack pattern as an option, can be fully opened in 18 seconds at speeds up to 30 km/h.
The fabric electric soft top can be opened or closed with the flick of a switch, even while driving, at speeds up to 30 km/h. The standard roof color is black, but a gray Union Jack pattern is available as an option. It takes 18 seconds to fully open the roof, lowering the window bars and side windows and unobstructing the surrounding visibility. It can be returned to its closed position in 15 seconds, and the roof can be opened 40 cm regardless of speed to let in fresh air.
Wind deflectors behind the front seats reduce wind noise and unwanted turbulence when driving with the top down, while a Rollover Protection System installed behind the rear seat headrests automatically activates to protect passengers if the vehicle’s safety devices detect a risk of rollover.
With the soft top open, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 160 liters. With the soft top closed, the capacity increases to 215 liters. The storage space behind the rear seats can be expanded using the two locking handles. The tailgate opens downwards for easy loading and unloading.
Equipped with the latest large circular OLED display
The cockpit of the new generation MINI series is also equipped with a large circular 240mm diameter OLED display. The high brightness display allows the screen to be clearly seen even when the top is down.
The interior features a minimalist design and textile materials in line with the “Charismatic Simplicity” concept of the new MINI series. The cockpit features a newly designed sporty steering wheel, a large circular OLED display in the center of the instrument panel, and a classic toggle switch bar.
Behind the steering wheel, a head-up display displays all driving information. This eliminates the need for an additional meter panel on the dashboard on the driver’s side, creating a cockpit with a more open feel. The textile surface is based on a newly developed knit material. The two-tone fabric made from recycled polyester gives the interior a soft atmosphere.
The seats are upholstered in a grey or black synthetic leather and textile combination. Optional JCW sport seats feature beige or Nightshade Blue synthetic leather with contrast stitching. The JCW trim upgrades the sport seats to black leather with colorful knit shoulder straps and red stitching.
The large 240mm diameter central meter is equipped with the latest infotainment system, MINI Operating System 9. Drivers and passengers can easily operate all vehicle functions via touch display or voice input. Advanced OLED technology ensures a bright, easy-to-read display even with the soft top open.
Three gasoline engines available
At the time of the announcement, the lineup will include the MINI Cooper C Convertible and the MINI Cooper S Convertible, both equipped with different specifications of a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline turbo. The JCW version will be added later.
The power unit lineup includes three high-performance 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engines. The entry-level model, the MINI Cooper C Convertible, delivers a maximum output of 165 PS and a maximum torque of 250 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 220 km/h.
The top-of-the-line model, the MINI Cooper S Convertible, has a maximum output of 206 PS and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 237 km/h. A high-performance version, the John Cooper Works (JCW), is also planned to be added, which aims to offer the ultimate in driving pleasure.
