McLaren’s first Japan-only model, the 750S JC96, pays homage to Team Goh’s McLaren F1 GTR, which won the 1996 All Japan GT Championship.

The 750S JC96, developed as McLaren Automotive’s first limited edition exclusive to Japan, features a unique, exclusive exterior inspired by the F1 GTR driven by TEAM GOH in the 1996 JGTC season.

In the 1996 JGTC season, McLaren teamed up with Team Goh and entered two F1 GTRs. They showed overwhelming dominance in the grueling series, taking a 1-2 finish in the opening race and then taking pole position and fastest lap in every race of the season. The striking “Rocket Pink” and “Tarmac Grey” livery on the cars became synonymous with the F1 GTR competing on the circuit.

Only 61 units of the 750S JC96 will be produced, a reference to the car number “61” of Team Goh, which won the title in the GT500 category.

The interior features exclusive equipment reminiscent of the F1 GTR. New 15-spoke ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels are fitted. The 750S JC96 is available in coupe and spider versions, but this limited edition model is the first in the world to be fitted with the 750S MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK) on an open-top 750S.

Exclusive livery inspired by JGTC machines

The 750S JC96 features a special livery inspired by the color scheme of the McLaren F1 GTR that competed in the 1996 JGTC. Tiger stripes are applied to the rear wing end plates and other areas.

The F1 GTR, entered by a team of McLaren and Team Goh, was chosen for its distinctive “Tiger Stripe” design, combining Rocket Pink and Tarmac Gray. All 750S JC96 cars were given a special paint job inspired by this livery. Special details were added to the front splitter, rear wing end plates, and door mirror casings.

Four detail colours are available: Memphis Red, Titanium Silver, Ice White and Graphite Grey, carefully selected to complement the wide range of 750S body colours. Owners can also choose their own unique paint scheme using the MSO Bespoke paint programme.

The 750S JC96 Tribute Rivalry (pictured back) features unique tiger stripe details across the entire body. The Tribute Rivalry will be hand-painted by MSO and will be offered to just four customer cars. McLaren Automotive Chief Commercial Officer, Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, commented on the limited edition model exclusively for Japan:

“The 750S JC96 is a love letter to McLaren fans in Japan. Japanese customers demand track-bred performance, but they also don’t compromise on bespoke personalisation and attention to detail to create the McLaren that’s right for them.”

“The 750S JC96 is a car that perfectly meets these demands. And what’s more, if you choose the 750S JC96 Spider, you’ll not only get the impact of a convertible supercar, but for the first time you can also enjoy the enhanced track performance of the MSO HDK.”

Equipped with “MSO High Downforce Kit”

The highlight of this limited edition model is the MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK), which increases downforce levels by 10%, making it the first time it has been adopted for a Spider anywhere in the world.

A major feature of the 750S JC96 is that it is equipped with the 750S “MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK).” As mentioned above, this is the first time that this suspension system has been offered for the 750S Spider. McLaren’s High Downforce Kit was originally developed for the F1 LM, and was later further evolved and equipped on the 1996 F1 GTR.

The 750S JC96’s HDK is inspired by this aerodynamic design, with a series of components working in concert to enhance aerodynamic performance. The revised front bumper now features an enlarged dual-element splitter, a raised active rear spoiler with integrated end plates, and louvred underwing panels. The HDK increases downforce by 10% compared to the base model, significantly enhancing track performance.

The 750S JC96 is fitted for the first time with new ultra-lightweight “Delta” 15-spoke forged alloy wheels, with a design inspired by the race wheels of the later F1 GTR “Longtail.” These are complemented by F1 Gold brake calipers with red McLaren logos. The natural titanium finish of the central stainless steel sports exhaust also references the GTR.

F1 GTR-inspired cockpit

The cockpit features a special design, including a pedal set, reminiscent of the 1996 F1 GTR.

The cockpit is available in the “Performance” version, with three different designs of full Alcantara to choose from. It features a unique design that evokes the soul of the 1996 F1 GTR. The pedal set, drive select switch, and special anniversary plate, all reminiscent of the F1, are finished in gold, and the headrests and armrests feature the “JC96” logo.

Options available exclusively for the 750S JC96 include the “JC96 Tribute Rebate” by MSO, as well as “JC96 Exterior Detailing,” “HDK & Underbody,” “Front and Rear Louver Carbon Fiber Pack,” “750S JC96 Exclusive Side Badge,” and “JC96” on the surface of the rear wing.

All 750S JC96 owners can customize their vehicle to their exact specifications through MSO’s personalization service. The MSO Interior Livery Theme Pack, available through MSO Bespoke, adds the JC96’s distinctive tiger stripes to the steering wheel’s 12 o’clock paint marker, paddles, extended carbon fiber door sills, and interior door appliqués. A bespoke painted vehicle key is also included.

The front luggage compartment can be fitted with an optional McLaren Track Record Plate, commemorating McLaren’s legacy on the circuit. This titanium plate commemorates McLaren’s historic victories and titles, along with the iconic cars that achieved them.

Among supercars, McLaren stands out from Ferrari and Lamborghini.

McLaren’s 750S and 720S: Supercars with F1 DNA – Explained | Fuel economy, maintenance costs, new and used car prices

McLaren has applied cutting-edge technologies developed in F1, such as lightweight carbon monocoque structures and active chassis control, to mass-produced road cars, building a brand that can be described as “science-oriented” in a way that sets it apart from Ferrari and Lamborghini. The 750S, which can be said to be the core model, can be said to be a supercar that inherits the DNA of F1. Its greatest feature is its thorough pursuit of driving performance and driver engagement, based on a design philosophy directly linked to racing. This time, we will introduce the core model 750S and its predecessor, the 720S.
