PORSCHE TAYCAN
The Taycan is obviously more practical, but the Corvette E-Ray isn’t bad either.

This time we’ll be comparing the hybrid super sports car “Corvette E-Ray” and the high-performance BEV saloon “Taycan Turbo.” Both have a low and wide style, but the EV saloon Taycan is longer in overall length, while the Corvette E-Ray, a two-seater super sports car with a mid-engine layout, is wider in overall width. The Corvette E-Ray has the same 2025mm wide body as the top model Corvette Z06, which is 85mm wider than the standard model.
In terms of practicality, the Taycan, classified as a four-door sedan, is undoubtedly more practical. The Taycan has a 366L rear trunk and an 81L trunk in the front. Meanwhile, the Corvette E-Ray has a trunk behind the engine bay large enough to carry two golf bags, and a front trunk with roughly the same capacity as the standard model. The Corvette E-Ray’s combined cargo capacity is 355L. Considering that it seats two people, the Corvette E-Ray’s storage space is quite good. However, care must be taken in the rear trunk due to the heat transferred from the engine.

Acceleration performance below 100km/h is almost equal

The Corvette is a hybrid car that uses a V8 OHV engine to drive the rear tires and a motor with a maximum output of 162 PS and a maximum torque of 125 Nm to drive the front tires. In contrast, the Taycan is equipped with one motor at the front and one at the rear, and by using a two-speed transmission, it is possible to maintain powerful acceleration even at high speeds.
The system output of both cars is 664 PS for the Corvette and 707 PS for the Taycan. In terms of acceleration performance, the Corvette’s 0-60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration time is 2.5 seconds, while the Taycan’s maximum output increases to 884 PS when using launch control, and the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 2.7 seconds. Since the time standards are different, a strict comparison cannot be made, but it can be said that the acceleration performance of both cars below 100 km/h is almost the same.
In February 2024, the Taycan was improved in terms of acceleration performance and battery capacity was increased to 97kWh (gross), extending the driving range to a maximum of 683km (WLTP City). The Corvette also has a battery (1.9kWh) that can travel 4.8 to 6.4km on a full charge using only the front motor.

The electric Corvette is attractive because it can run quietly even late at night or early in the morning.

The Corvette E-Ray is priced at 23.5 million yen, which is 6.55 million yen more than the standard Corvette 3LT and 2.3 million yen less than the Corvette Z06. The Taycan Turbo is priced at almost the same 23.16 million yen.
The Corvette E-Ray, with its large-displacement V8 power and quiet driving even late at night and early in the morning, is a very attractive choice as a super sports car equipped with an internal combustion engine. On the other hand, the Taycan has high maneuverability and can be used without any inconvenience as a comfortable electric saloon. There is not much difference between the two cars in terms of power performance or price. If you had to pick three deciding factors to choose, they would be “need for a back seat,” “whether or not you have an engine,” and “your preference for styling.”
