BMW M2 Racing
Development program begins in 2023

It has been decided that a customer racing car will be developed based on the current M2 in 2023. After a two-year development period, deliveries to customers will begin in 2026.
BMW M Motorsport has announced that it will begin delivering its latest entry-level racing car, the M2 Racing, to private customer teams around the world from the 2026 season. As of 2025, the development and testing program is reaching its climax, and the actual car was unveiled at the opening round of the DTM race held at Oschersleben ahead of its official launch.
Development began at the Aschheim factory near Munich in November 2023. The development team first rigorously tested the current M2 generation chassis to ensure it could withstand the rigors of motorsport. Three development vehicles were then built and put through a rigorous test program of 30,000 km on the race track.
Franziskus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, explained the M2 Racing project as follows:
“With the introduction of M2 Racing, we are continuing a proud BMW tradition. Like the M235i Racing, M240i Racing and M2 CS Racing, this new car will significantly raise the bar for entry-level racing cars.”
“We have made it affordable for racing teams and drivers, ensuring uncompromising performance and durability, while offering pure driving pleasure. BMW M Motorsport is committed to supporting private motorsports by supplying racing cars that are easy to maintain, cost-effective and thrilling to drive.”
Many racing drivers participated in the development

BMW M Motorsport works drivers participated in the test program that began in 2024, providing the development team with a wealth of valuable knowledge.
Many of BMW M Motorsport’s works drivers have been behind the wheel of the M2 Racing during an intensive test programme, making a significant contribution to the development of the car by testing performance, drivability, tyre wear and durability under race conditions.
Racing driver Jens Klingmann, who took part in the development tests, gives his stamp of approval to the M2 Racing’s perfection.
“Privateers who purchase the M2 Racing will find it easy to operate, its links to the production model keep operating costs extremely low, and it’s a serious racing car with excellent performance.”
“On the race track, the M2 Racing will deliver the driving pleasure that is deeply rooted in BMW’s DNA. Our focus was on creating the perfect car for everyone, from track day enthusiasts to ambitious gentleman drivers, and we’re extremely pleased with the result.”
Sold within the EU for 98,000 euros

The M2 Racing is priced at 98,000 euros within the EU, and orders are already being taken through BMW M Motorsport specialist dealers.
The M2 Racing is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-four “B48” gasoline turbo engine, rather than the 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo engine used in production cars, which produces a maximum output of 317 PS and a maximum torque of 420 Nm. The transmission is a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The suspension is equipped with KW shock absorbers developed based on those used in the M4 GT3.
The maximum speed is 270 km/h. Based on the chassis of the current M2, many racing components inherited from the M3 have been introduced. Prices within the EU start from 98,000 euros. Orders and sales will be made through BMW M Motorsport specialist dealers. Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, was proud of the M2 Racing’s level of completion.
“The M2 Racing is an entry-level customer racing car that combines driving fun, performance and intuitive handling. It was developed in close collaboration between BMW M Motorsport and the production vehicle developers. The result is a powerful racing car that is easy to use and has low running costs. The M2 Racing makes racing more accessible to our customers.”
