Tavares leaves key role from PSA
Carlos Tavares became chairman and CEO of PSA in 2014. After the merger with FCA, he served as CEO of the Stellantis Group.
On December 1, 2024, Stellantis Group announced that its Board of Directors, including Chairman John Elkann, had accepted the resignation of CEO Carlos Tavares. The process to appoint a new CEO is being carried out by a special committee of the Board of Directors and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025. Until then, an interim executive committee will be established, chaired by Chairman Elkann.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1958, Tavares joined Renault as a test drive engineer in 1981. He worked for Nissan from 2004 to 2011, before returning to Renault in 2011 as Chief Operating Officer (COO) directly under Carlos Ghosn.
Tavares, who left Renault in 2013, became Chairman and CEO of Groupe PSA (Peugeot Citroën) in 2014. After the establishment of Stellantis in 2021, he led the group as CEO together with Chairman Elkann. Chairman Elkann commented on Tavares’s retirement as follows:

I look forward to working with the new Interim Executive Committee, supported by all Stellantis employees, towards the appointment of a new CEO.
