The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe is the top-performance version of the GLC, equipped with an electric turbo and boasting high driving performance. Unlike the standard GLC model, which has a conventional SUV style, the Coupe features a slanted hatch gate, giving it a more personal feel.
The Macan, which has been the backbone of Porsche for about 10 years since 2014, is due for a model change to the second generation equipped with a fully electric powertrain in 2024. However, the Macan GTS featured here is the first-generation model that reigns supreme over all ICE-powered models, excluding plug-in hybrids.
As mentioned above, the Macan debuted 10 years ago. However, its exterior design is instantly recognizable as a Porsche, and it doesn’t feel outdated when compared to the latest GLC 43 Coupe. The GLC 43 Coupe is 64mm longer in length and 83mm longer in wheelbase, contributing to the comfort of the rear seats.

The GLC 43 Coupe is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder gasoline engine featuring electric exhaust gas turbocharging, a new technology developed in Formula 1. The Macan GTS, on the other hand, is equipped with a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine, which produces 19 PS and 50 Nm more torque than the GLC 43 Coupe. It also beats the latest GLC 43 Coupe in 0-100 km/h acceleration by 0.3 seconds.

Although the basic design is old, Porsche’s ICE is attractive

The GLC 43 Coupe’s cockpit combines a 12.3-inch digital meter display with a vertical 11.9-inch media display, and features strikingly dazzling trim pieces. The Macan GTS’s interior, while reminiscent of a Porsche, feels more than a generation older. While both are spacious, the GLC 43 Coupe boasts more legroom thanks to its longer wheelbase, despite its lower headroom.
The GLC 43 Coupe has advantages that contrast with the Macan GTS, such as its equipment including infotainment and the luxury typical of Mercedes-AMG. On the other hand, although production of the Macan GTS has already been switched to a new model in its home country, Porsche’s refined 2.9-liter V6 turbo is still attractive. The new car price of the Macan GTS is 980,000 yen more expensive than the GLC 43 Coupe, but it may be worth looking for a used car that is younger and has low mileage.
