Alpine A110

Even the lowest grade now costs over 10 million yen

I’m suddenly interested in used Alpine A110s. At over 6 million yen, they’re still not exactly a bargain, but perhaps they’re holding steady and there’s little hope of them dropping any further. That’s how I’m starting to think.

The revived mid-engine, rear-wheel drive A110 is a candidate for a future discontinued popular model. This is because Alpine has already shifted its focus to becoming an electric brand. The company is targeting the electric luxury market with a two-pronged strategy: 90 series lifestyle models such as the already announced A290 concept and the slightly larger A390, as well as 10 sports models such as the A110 successor and the A310.

Since it is a brand that has the bloodline of the former Renault Sport, we have high expectations for it, but for those of us who know the excellence of the four-cylinder engine in the current A110, we feel a little sad about the switch to an electric model.

Furthermore, despite being at the end of its model life, it remains popular, and the new car price has been revised so that even the lowest grade model now costs over 10 million yen. Rising new car prices are always a major factor in pushing up the market price for used cars.

A popular model that almost dominates this market

In addition, a super-sized model has appeared. Although it is a limited edition model of only 110 units, it is the “A110 R Ultim,” with a vehicle price of over 40 million yen in the European market. It could be called the “final” or the “ultimate,” but the A110 now has a super sports car price tag. This will have a significant impact on the future market trends of the A110.

In short, there are currently no factors that would cause the used car market price of the A110 in Japan to fall significantly. In fact, there are only factors that would cause it to rise. The used car market price of the current model is influenced by the number of new cars in circulation, but since the price of new cars has already risen, the price of cars that will be supplied to the used car market from now on will inevitably rise. Moreover, unlike an unpopular model, this model maintains almost exclusive popularity in this market, so there are no factors that would cause the high price to drop.

Of course, it would be a different story if no one bought new cars because of the increased prices. In that case, new cars would be sold at discounts and the used car market would collapse. However, there are no reports of poor sales of new A110 cars. The price increase was also exquisite, and buyers could accept it as being commensurate with the rise in prices.

So, as I mentioned at the beginning, it’s still not cheap in absolute terms, and I think the current model, the A110, is a good buy now.

A highly refined sports car from the start

Oh, I forgot to mention there’s another reason why you should buy one now. That is, the A110’s performance was basically excellent, even for the early models. Since its debut, various specifications have been released, some of which boast high performance, but the core of the A110’s appeal lies in its packaging, chassis, and design. It has been a highly refined sports car since its debut, and even the standard grades have remained the same in terms of driving enthusiasts. In fact, the purer the model, the deeper the flavor of the A110. In short, it is a rare model in which no matter what you buy, it is sure to be a sports car for driving enthusiasts.

When looking for a used car, the only things you’ll want to pay attention to are the mileage and the body color. The Alpine-esque blue is the model’s theme color, but you could also try driving it for a long time, or choose a more subdued color. If you can find an unusual color within your budget (around 8 million yen is a good price), you’ll be lucky.

The lowest price for the A110 is 5 million yen, and I think it will be a model with a long mileage. So, wouldn’t it be a good idea to look for one now while there are still colors and types to choose from?

The used car market fluctuates dramatically with the coming and going of car trends. If you’re going to live the used car life, you want to accurately capture those trends and make a good deal.
