PORSCHE Boxster EV
Will it be released? Next-generation Boxster and Cayman ICE specs

It will take a considerable amount of development time to equip the next-generation Boxster and Cayman with ICE engines, which were developed as pure EVs.
Development of the next-generation Porsche Boxster, designed as an electric vehicle, is underway. However, Porsche is reportedly considering redesigning the 718 models to accommodate hybrid systems. The next-generation 718 Boxster/Cayman EV, which is already nearing the end of its development program, is expected to be released within the next few months. If it were to be compatible with an internal combustion engine, development would take several years.
Should SUVs also be reconsidered for ICE installation?

It is highly likely that the powertrains of SUVs such as the Cayenne and K1, which are currently under development, are also being reconsidered.
The same applies to the Cayenne, which is currently under development. Furthermore, the flagship SUV K1, scheduled for release in 2028, is also being developed as an EV, but it appears that reconsideration will be necessary to install an ICE. Given the relatively ample space with three rows of seats and the development schedule, it is highly likely that the K1 will be able to be adapted to a hybrid power unit.
CFO Meschke says, “We will respond precisely to customer needs.”

Porsche’s chief financial officer says they will create products that meet customer needs…
CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Lutz Meschke said it was clear that customers in the premium and luxury segments were turning to engine-powered models. “Our production line in Leipzig is very flexible and can produce engine vehicles, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles,” he said. “In terms of research and development, we will become even more flexible in the coming years to meet demand,” he said, explaining Porsche’s future direction.
The engine never dies

In any case, the original plan to have 80% BEVs by 2030 will likely be revised.
Porsche previously planned to have 80% of its lineup comprised of EVs by 2030. It was said that the remaining 20% of the 911 would not be fully electrified until the 2030s. However, with recent trends, it seems likely that ICE vehicles will remain in the lineup for the time being, even for cars other than the 911.
