Ferrari aiming for second consecutive win of the season

Led by car number 50, which won the WEC opening race, the 1812km race in Qatar, three Ferrari 499Ps will be aiming for a consecutive victory in the second race, the 6 Hours of Imola.

Led by car number 50, which won the WEC opening race, the 1812km race in Qatar, three Ferrari 499Ps will be aiming for a consecutive victory in the second race, the 6 Hours of Imola.

After a historic sweep of the podium at the 1,812km Qatar race, the season opener for 2025, Ferrari will be aiming to repeat the feat at the 6 Hours of Imola, which will be held on April 20th at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy, after a gap of about a month and a half.

The Imola Circuit, where the 6 Hours of Imola will be held for the first time in the 2025 WEC Europe season, is known for its undulating stop-and-go layout. 18 cars, including three 499Ps, were entered in the top Hypercar class, and 18 cars in the LMGT3 class.

Ferrari will be competing in the race with the Ferrari AF Corse No. 50 car, which won the 1,812km course in Qatar, the No. 51 car (Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi), which took pole position in qualifying, and the AF Corse No. 83 car (Robert Kubica, Ye Yifei, Philip Hansson), which came second in the opening race, all aiming to achieve consecutive wins for Ferrari.

Overtaking is difficult at the Imola circuit

Giovinazzi points out that Imola, with its long history, is extremely challenging due to the short straights and the large number of cars on the track.

The first free practice session for the 6 Hours of Imola will be held on Friday, April 18th from 11:15am, followed by the second free practice session at 4pm. On Saturday, April 19th, the third free practice session will be held from 10:40am to 11:40am, followed by qualifying at 3:10pm and hyperpole at 3:30pm. The final race is scheduled to start at 1pm on Sunday, April 20th.

Antonio Giovinazzi, who will be driving the No. 51 car, is aiming for his first win of the season. Regarding his home event, the 6 Hours of Imola, Giovinazzi commented:

“Imola is our home track and we have been competitive so far. We will do our best to deliver a good result for the many fans who will be in the stands.

“Imola is a so-called ‘old-style’ course, with lots of ups and downs and many tough corners. The course is not particularly large, so there will be a lot of hypercars and LMGT3 cars on the course, and a high level of concentration will be required. Furthermore, the main straight is not a straight in the strict sense, but has two half-curves. This makes overtaking an extremely difficult course.”

The Ferrari 499P #50 finished first in the 1,812km WEC season opener in Qatar. Ferrari #83 came in second and #51 came in third, giving the team its first complete podium finish in an endurance race in 53 years.
