Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future
NIGO’s artwork using a G-Class

At the fashion event “City of Genius” held in Shanghai, China, NIGO unveiled his work “Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future,” which uses a restored G-Class from the 1990s as its material.
On October 19, 2024, Mercedes-Benz and Moncler held a special collaboration at the fashion event “The City of Genius” held in Shanghai.
In addition to the new brand campaign, “Past Forward. Where the Future is Driven by the Past,” the brand has unveiled an artwork created by fashion designer NIGO, “Project G-Class Past II Future.” Based on a restored 1990s G-Class, NIGO has reinterpreted the interior and exterior design elements, incorporating contemporary cultural scenes.
Additionally, a special edition G-Class based on the new G-Class, “G-Class Past II Future,” featuring Project G-Class Past II Future, will be released in a limited run of 20 units. A genderless capsule collection designed jointly by Mercedes-Benz, Moncler, and NIGO was also unveiled at the show. The limited edition G-Class and capsule collection are scheduled to be released in April 2025.
Bettina Fetzer, Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG, commented on the collaboration:
“NIGO’s incredible creativity and collaboration with Moncler have resulted in an exciting urban worldview. Based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Past II Future model puts a special twist on our icon. This limited edition model captures the style of the ’90s and the timeless personality of the G-Class in a fresh way.”
Mercedes and Moncler’s second collaboration

“Project G-Class Past II Future” is the second collaborative art piece between Mercedes-Benz and Moncler featuring the G-Class, following “Project Mondo G,” which was announced in February 2023.
NIGO’s “Project G-Class Past II Future” is the second collaborative art piece between Mercedes-Benz and Moncler. Similar to “PROJECT MONDO G,” which was unveiled at Moncler’s “The Art of Genius” show in London in February 2023, this latest piece combines the beautiful quilting of Moncler’s puffer jacket with the edgy design of the G-Class.
The Project G-Class Past II Future features a minimalist two-tone matte finish of olive green and grey, combined with black and gold accents. While retaining the clean lines of the classic G-Class Cabriolet, NIGO has added a reinterpretation of the car’s rear gate, black steel wheels with a 1990s design, a folding windshield, and gold-coloured jerry cans.
Inside, Devon Turnbull, a self-confessed G-Class enthusiast known for his immersive audio installations, designed a bespoke sound system, including a custom boombox mounted to the convertible’s roof links, which are removable along with the roof and speakers.
The checkered seats feature the typical design of the early Geländewagen, while orange and gold accents highlight the connection to the collaborative capsule collection between Mercedes-Benz, Moncler and NIGO. NIGO reflected on the creation of “Project G-Class Past II Future”:
“The ’90s was a decade that had a huge impact on me in terms of culture and creativity. During this time, electronic music and hip hop emerged as new ways of expressing urban identity. I wanted to interpret that heritage for a new era and incorporate the vibe and energy of that era into the design of the Project G-Class Past II Future.”
