Audi Q3

First headlight to use micro LED modules

The new model of the Q3, Audi’s flagship SUV, has made its debut. The Q3 is a relatively new model, with the first generation having been released in 2011, but it is already one of Audi’s most popular models, with over 2 million units sold.

The first thing that impresses is its innovative design. The single-frame grille is very wide, emphasizing its width. The design of the underside grille, which extends upward on both sides and surrounds the single-frame grille, is a common feature of the latest Audi cars, such as the new A5, which recently arrived in Japan.

The slim headlights are digital matrix LEDs, the first to use micro LED modules, and have achieved a significant improvement in illumination performance. The 23 LEDs on each side create a unique look, and four different digital light signatures can be configured to suit your needs. The rear lights also feature digital OLED lights, LED light strips running from side to side, and an illuminated Four Rings emblem, creating a striking presence.

A PHV capable of 120km of EV driving

The powertrains are a 1.5-liter inline-four TFSI with two options: 150 PS and 204 PS/320 Nm. The quattro model has a 2.0-liter inline-four engine that produces 265 PS/400 Nm. The TDI model has 150 PS/360 Nm and is front-wheel drive only. A plug-in hybrid (PHV) model will also be available. This model is paired with an 85 kW/330 Nm motor, producing a powerful 272 PS/400 Nm of power and torque, and the 25.7 kWh battery allows for a maximum EV range of 120 km. It has yet to be decided which engine will be introduced in the Japanese market.

The suspension has also been significantly revised to achieve both maneuverability and comfort. In particular, the 2-valve damper control suspension is a new mechanism that instantly controls the extension and compression of the dampers individually based on parameters such as steering, braking, and acceleration.

The optional progressive steering system improves responsiveness and feedback from the road by varying the steering ratio, while still providing an SUV-like steering feel without being overly direct.

The drive selector now has a balanced mode instead of the previous auto mode, which provides the optimum balance between dynamic performance and comfort and is the default mode when activated. The Quattro also has an Offroad Plus mode.

Significantly improved lane keeping function

The interior features an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch MMI touch display. The curved design faces the driver, improving visibility. Shifting is performed using a lever on the right side behind the new steering wheel. This allows for practical storage space in the center console. Nine interior packages are available, and sustainability is also taken into consideration, with recycled polyester and recycled nylon fibers being used in the materials.

The car is also equipped with cutting-edge safety and driver assistance systems. It has too many features to list here, including a lane-keeping function that can keep the car in its lane even on roads without lane boundaries, a function that can autonomously stop the car on the side of the road if the driver stops responding, and an automatic parking function with learning capabilities. Even non-beginners will likely find the reverse assistant, which memorizes a 50m distance and automatically reverses the car, useful for escaping from a dead end, useful in situations where the driver would like to rely on it.

This third-generation model has evolved in every direction, achieving a more emotional design with a high level of premium quality, driving performance, and comfort. Orders will be accepted in Europe from the summer, with the car scheduled for release in September. The timing of its introduction in Japan has yet to be determined.
