McLaren Le Mans Hypercar
Hypercar unveiled to customers

McLaren announced at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours race that it will be competing in the WEC from 2027. The team has now unveiled the LMDh hypercar at Monterey Car Week.
At the 2025 Monterey Car Week, the company unveiled an LMDh-spec prototype racing car to customers of its customer partnership program, Project: Endurance, which allows them to drive a real LMDh-spec prototype racing car.
The launch event was hosted by Justin Bell, who finished third overall in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans driving the #51 McLaren F1 GTR, and was unveiled by McLaren Group Holdings CEO Nick Collins and McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. The prototype racing car also debuted in a new livery reminiscent of the McLaren M16 that won the 1974 Indy 500.
The McLaren hypercar, which was unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, is scheduled to make its race debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027. McLaren is aiming to achieve motorsport’s Triple Crown (Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix and 24 Hours of Le Mans) in a single season.
A tribute to the 1974 Indy 500

The prototype racing car unveiled for the first time this time pays homage to the livery of the car driven by Johnny Rutherford in the Indy 500.
The new livery pays homage to McLaren’s first Triple Crown victory, the 1974 Indianapolis 500, which was won that year by an M16 driven by Texan Johnny Rutherford.
The main body color is McLaren Orange with a dark blue center stripe based on the Texas flag color. The roof incorporates the white Texas star that was used on Rutherford’s helmet design. In addition to Rutherford’s race number “3,” McLaren’s “Speedy Kiwi” and “Speedmark” logos have also been added.
McLaren will develop and build a limited number of customer cars for Project Endurance in parallel with the LMDh hypercar, which will be introduced from 2027. Project Endurance will allow participants to take part in the development programme and testing carried out by McLaren Works in preparation for the debut of the LMDh hypercar, as well as interact with team members and drivers, and also include a track driving programme on some of the world’s most famous circuits.
McLaren Group Holdings CEO Nick Collins added this about Project Endurance:
“Project Endurance is highly anticipated by customers and fans around the world. Participants will be among the very few to own this Le Mans Hypercar and will have the opportunity to take part directly in the development and testing program – a very special offer.”
Following Monterey, McLaren will be showcasing the LMDh hypercar to potential Project Endurance customers at events in Dallas and Miami.
