Lamborghini Urus SE

The Urus SE is an SUV that asserts its individuality

Lamborghini has created the latest model, the Revuelto, by converting its V12 flagship, which has continued since the Countach, into a plug-in hybrid. The car introduces a “High Performance EV (HPEV)” system that combines a 6.5-liter V12 engine with three electric motors, making it one of the first super sports car manufacturers to turn to electrification.

Following the Revuelto, which was announced in 2023, a facelift of the Urus, which has been the backbone of Lamborghini since its debut, was implemented in 2024. At the same time, the Urus SE, a model equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain based on a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, was also introduced.

The Urus SE, which touts itself as a super SUV, has a distinctive, racy exterior with a low-slung hood and a steeply sloping tailgate, compared to other brands’ SUVs and crossovers. Furthermore, the latest facelift also gives it a sharper front fascia. However, compared to the Revuelto, a full-fledged super sports car, it’s only natural that its size and weight will be felt, even though it’s a super SUV. In fact, the Urus SE’s vehicle weight is more than 400 kg heavier than the Revuelto.

Lamborghini Revuelto

Body size = Length 4947 x Width 2033 x Height 1160 mm

Wheelbase = 2779 mm

Vehicle weight = 1772 kg

Tire size = 265/35ZR20 (front), 345/30ZR21 (rear)

Lamborghini Urus SE

Body size = Length 5123 x Width 2022 x Height 1638 mm

Wheelbase = 3003 mm

Vehicle weight = 2190 kg

Tire size = 285/45ZR21 (front), 315/40ZR21 (rear)

Revuelto leaves Urus SE behind

The Revuelto’s HPEV system is based on a 6.5-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine, with two motors mounted on the front axle and one mounted to an 8-speed DCT, producing a maximum system output of 1,015 PS. The Urus SE is an AWD vehicle with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharger and an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted between them. The motor’s output is added to the 620 PS engine, resulting in a maximum system output of 800 PS.

Although it’s an SUV, the Urus SE achieves a top speed of over 300 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. However, the Revuelto far exceeds the Urus SE in top speed of 350 km/h. It also accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, giving it the powerful driving performance befitting a flagship super sports car.

System maximum output = 1015PS

Transmission = 8-speed DCT

Drive system = AWD

Top speed = 350km/h

0-100km/h acceleration = 2.5 seconds

Lamborghini Urus SE

Engine type = V8 twin turbo + 1 motor

Displacement = 3996cc

System maximum output = 800PS / 6000rpm

System maximum torque = 800Nm / 2250-4500rpm

Transmission = 8-speed AT

Drive system = AWD

Top speed = 312km/h

0-100km/h acceleration = 3.4 seconds

An SUV that surpasses the average super sports car

The Revuelto boasts a driver-focused cockpit with a systematic layout of a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, an 8.4-inch information system, and a 9.1-inch passenger display. The steering wheel is equipped with an ANIMA rotary dial, allowing for quick switching between driving modes.

The Urus SE is equipped with a 12.3-inch meter display and a 12.3-inch center display in the center of the dashboard. This facelift not only increased the size of the center display, but also updated the in-car digital system to the latest specifications. The Urus SE has a low overall height for an SUV, but the rear seats still provide ample space for two adults to relax.

While the Revuelto’s range in EV mode is limited to around 10km, the Urus SE, equipped with a 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery, can travel up to 60km without relying on the internal combustion engine.

The price difference is almost double, making it completely uncompetitive. It can’t compete with the Revuelto, which pursues the ultimate hybrid sports car, but the Urus SE’s versatility and powerful performance make it unique, even in this day and age when there are so many SUVs on the market.

Experience the two safety benefits of electrification in the Lamborghini Revuelto during a test drive at Suzuka Circuit

The Revuelto, Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid super sports car, is scheduled to be released in 2023. Apparently, you can test drive it at Suzuka Circuit. With the opportunity to test drive the latest flagship V12 Lamborghini on one of the world’s most popular courses, I canceled all my plans, hopped on the Shinkansen, and headed to Suzuka Circuit.

The Urus has become a hybrid, and all of Lamborghini's models are now hybrid.

Test drive and explanation of what’s so great about the Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid SUV with a maximum output of 800 horsepower

The Urus, the backbone of Lamborghini, has undergone its first major minor change. The biggest topic is the adoption of a plug-in hybrid. It allows for 60km of EV driving and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds. We test drive this super SUV that combines comfort and speed. (Reprinted and re-edited from GENROQ July 2025 issue)
