Bugatti Chiron
What is the Bugatti Chiron?

[1]

[2]
[1] The Chiron has a powerful front view typical of a hypercar. [2] The W16 engine delivers 1,500 horsepower to the road via all-wheel drive.
Bugatti’s flagship Chiron made a spectacular debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the Veyron. This hypercar is hand-assembled in the company’s Molsheim workshop in eastern France. Its 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbo engine delivers 1,500 PS and 1,600 Nm of torque, propelling the Chiron from a standstill to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds. While its top speed is electronically limited to 380 km/h, it can reach 420 km/h by switching to Top Speed mode using the Speed Key. Its carbon fiber monocoque and all-wheel drive system ensure a precise and dynamic driving experience.
Only 500 units were produced, and in addition to the basic model, there are several derivative models, such as the “Chiron Sport” with improved cornering performance, and the “Super Sport 300+” which has a record top speed of over 300 mph (480 km/h). The price is extremely high, starting at approximately 340 million yen, and there are many variations with limited colors and special equipment, making it a supreme model that pursues ultimate performance and luxury.

[3] The Chiron’s exterior design exudes both power and elegance. [4] The interior uses the finest materials to create a luxurious space.
The exterior of the Bugatti Chiron exudes elegance and power, befitting a hypercar costing over 300 million yen. The interior is lavishly crafted with the finest materials and craftsmanship, creating a luxuriously spacious cabin.
Appearance: A dignified and elegant design that is instantly recognizable as a Bugatti
The Bugatti Chiron’s exterior is characterized by a sculpted design that combines elegance and strength. The front features Bugatti’s iconic horseshoe-shaped grille and LED headlights that cast a sharp gaze. The sides of the body feature a large arched shape known as the “C-line,” which creates the visual effect of the cabin pointing backward while also improving aerodynamic performance. The low, wide stance, large wheels, full-width LED taillights at the rear, and a huge diffuser also accentuate the Chiron’s majestic and imposing presence.
Interior: A simple yet functional space made with the finest materials
The interior of the Bugatti Chiron combines the finest materials with meticulous craftsmanship. The cockpit is designed with the driver in mind, featuring a simple yet functional design. The finest leather, machined aluminum parts, and carbon fiber accents create a luxurious feel. The center console is lined with a distinctive four-row analog switch, creating a fusion of classic and modern design. Quietness and comfort have also been thoroughly pursued, creating a space that combines high quality.
Bugatti Chiron size

The Chiron’s wide and low proportions give it a ground-hugging stance.
The Bugatti Chiron, which has a top speed of over 400 km/h, has low and wide proportions. Its imposing size of over 2 meters in width is impressive. There is ample space inside the cabin.
Body size: A size that combines extreme speed and elegance
The Bugatti Chiron’s body size is characterized by proportions that combine the presence and functionality of a hypercar. With a length of 4544mm, width of 2038mm and height of 1212mm, it has a low and wide form that gives it a stance that hugs the ground. To ensure stability at speeds of up to 400km/h, the wheelbase has been designed to be long at 2711mm. Although it is heavy at 1995kg, lightweight materials and a carbon monocoque are used to ensure high rigidity and safety. It can be said that this size is designed to combine extreme speed with luxury. (Figures are for the base model)
Interior space: A cabin space that also prioritizes comfort
The Bugatti Chiron’s cabin is designed with spaciousness and comfort in mind, even though it is a high-performance car. There is ample space between the driver and passenger, ensuring that even a large driver can sit comfortably. There is also ample adjustment range for the seat position, and the head clearance and legroom are at a sufficient level for a sports car.
Although storage is minimal, there are practical storage compartments in front of the passenger seat and in the center console. This car offers extreme performance while providing interior space that is comfortable for long-distance cruising.
Bugatti Chiron’s driving performance and fuel economy

The Chiron was the last to feature the W16 engine, which was inherited from the previous Veyron.
It seems that it was difficult for the Bugatti Chiron to achieve both ultimate driving performance and fuel economy. However, the super sports model with improved engine performance has slightly improved fuel economy.
Driving performance: Accelerates the approximately 2-ton body to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds
The Bugatti Chiron offers the world’s highest level of performance. Its 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbo engine produces a maximum output of 1500 PS and a maximum torque of 1600 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 2.4 seconds (2.3 seconds for the “Pure Sports” model) and from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Its top speed is said to be 420 km/h, but this is limited by a limiter, and its true potential is likely to exceed this.
The all-wheel drive system, carbon monocoque chassis and active aerodynamics give the Bugatti Chiron a high-level balance of high-speed stability and cornering performance, allowing the driver to experience both overwhelming power and high levels of control.
Fuel economy: 1600 PS 8.0 liter quad turbo approximately 4km/L
The Bugatti Chiron’s fuel economy comes at a trade-off with its ultra-high performance. Under the European WLTP standard, the combined figure is 25.19 L/100 km, which translates to a driving distance of just under 4 km per liter of gasoline. In 2019, the Super Sport 300+ was released, limited to 30 units. This model is equipped with a more powerful 1600 PS engine, but fuel economy has been slightly improved through efficiency improvements, including aerodynamics. Along with the Super Sport, which was released in 2021 as a mass-produced model inheriting the technology of the 300+, it has been announced that the combined figure is 21.47 L/100 km (approximately 4.66 L/100 km).
Bugatti Chiron purchase price and maintenance costs

Buying and maintaining a hypercar requires a huge amount of money.
The purchase price of the Bugatti Chiron, even for the base model, is well over 300 million yen. Regarding maintenance costs, basic maintenance is free for the first four years from the time of purchase. However, items not included in the package, such as tire and wheel replacement and optional insurance, can be very expensive.
Purchase price: From ¥300 million for the base model to ¥1.4 billion for the special edition model
The prices of these ultra-luxury imported cars are determined flexibly depending on exchange rate fluctuations and the contents of the order. If we simply calculate the price in euros at the time of announcement, the base model would be around 310 to 320 million yen. The high-performance Pure Sports is around 360 million yen, while the Super Sports and Super Sports 300+ are generally priced in the 400 to 600 million yen range. Incidentally, the Profilee4, a one-off model created in 2023 based on the Pure Sports, was sold for a record price of 9,792,500 euros (approximately 1,386 million yen at the exchange rate at the time).
Maintenance costs: 10 million yen per year required
For the first four years after purchasing a new car, there are generally no maintenance costs, with the exception of some items such as tires. From the fifth year onwards, unless you subscribe to an extended warranty, all costs will be incurred at actual cost. Oil changes, which are required once a year or every 16,000 km, are a time-consuming process that takes several days. Costs vary depending on the source, but they appear to be at least 2 million yen.
It is generally recommended that tires be replaced every 10,000 miles (16,000 km). At the same time, new wheels must also be purchased, which would add up to a total of over 10 million yen. For the Pure Sports, it is recommended that tires be replaced every 2,000 miles (3,200 km).
Voluntary insurance and regular inspection and maintenance costs are also high, so even at the very least, the maintenance costs for a Bugatti Chiron are estimated to be at least 5 million yen per year.
