Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s
The “W 460” that determined the popularity of the G-Class

The first generation G-Class, the W 460, debuted in 1979 and boasted the ability to handle any rough terrain, as well as the versatility to be used in urban areas.
In 2023, Mercedes-Benz will roll off the production line with its 500,000th G-Class. To commemorate this, Mercedes-Benz will sell a limited edition “Edition Stronger Than 1980s,” a limited edition of 460 units worldwide, which combines the colors, equipment, and details of the historic “W 460” with the current G-Class. This limited edition model was developed as a homage to the W 460 series, the “Geländewagen,” a unique off-road vehicle with excellent off-road performance in the 1980s, which built the popularity that led to the modern G-Class.
The “Edition Stronger Than 1980s” is available for two models: the 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel “G 450 d” and the 3.0-liter inline-six turbo gasoline “G 500.” Customers can choose from three nostalgic exterior colors that have a cult following in the history of the G-Class.
Blacked-out front section

The radiator grille and underbody protection are unified in black, and the turn signal indicators are solid orange, reminiscent of the 1980s.
This time, the “Edition Stronger Than 1980s” comes in three classic exterior colors inspired by the first-generation G-Class.
The earthy “MANUFAKTUR Agave Green Solid” emphasizes the G-Class’s robustness and back-to-nature qualities, as well as its excellent off-road capabilities. The classic “MANUFAKTUR Cream Solid” exudes elegance and sophistication, making it a popular color choice for customers who primarily use their G-Class in urban areas. The warm sand-toned “MANUFAKTUR Colorado Beige” emphasizes the adventurous spirit and evokes the versatility of the G-Class from the 1980s.
In keeping with the classic exterior colour scheme, the G-Class’s signature turn signal indicators are in solid orange, while the front section, radiator grille, bumpers, flared wheel arches and exterior mirror housings are finished in Night Black Magno, recreating the powerful exterior of the W 460.
The underbody protection is also finished in black, and the car rides on classic five-spoke lightweight alloy wheels. The three-pointed star on the bonnet follows the historic emblem design, featuring Mercedes-Benz lettering and a laurel wreath on a blue background. The rear section is equipped with a silver brand badge with black “Mercedes-Benz” lettering and a dedicated spare wheel cover, both original parts from the 1980s.
Each part of the interior highlights the limited edition model

The interior also highlights the limited edition model with features such as a leather seat center panel, special color combination, and “STRONGER THAN THE 1980s” lettering in the grab handle trim molding.
The interior features black leather seat center panels and a dove gray check fabric, which was extremely popular at the time. The passenger grab handle trim molding features the special lettering “STRONGER THAN THE 1980s.”
The front door sill panels feature the terrain of the Schöckl Mountains near Graz, paying homage to the test track where the G-Class has proven its off-road prowess since 1979. The traditional “Schöckl Proved” badge at the base of the B-pillar is a classic design choice from the 1980s.
The center console features “1 of 460” lettering to highlight the limited edition model. A nappa leather multi-function steering wheel, a glass sliding sunroof, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system are also standard equipment.
