The long-awaited closed electric boat has arrived

Following the debut of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Phantom Air in 2023 as the first jointly developed electric boat between Porsche and Frauscher Shipyard, the long-awaited 850 Phantom, a runabout with a closed foredeck, has now been released.

Following on from the open-top day cruiser 850 Phantom Air, Austrian shipbuilders Frauscher and Porsche have developed the classic runabout 850 Phantom, featuring a closed foredeck and cabin. This beautiful sports boat is powered by a fully electric power unit derived from the Porsche Macan Turbo.

Porsche is also promoting sustainable mobility outside of the automotive sector, and is working with the Frauscher shipyard to develop an electric boat. Just as the Porsche 911 comes in a variety of body styles, including coupe, convertible, and targa top, the Frauscher shipyard offers two body styles: Runabout and Air.

The newly announced 850 Phantom features a closed foredeck and a classic exterior, and customers can choose between a cabin under the bow or a center helm with seats and chaise lounges at the bow.Following the open-top 850 Phantom Air, the closed-top 850 Phantom will also be sold in a limited first edition of 25 boats.

Lutz Meschke, Vice President Finance & IT at Porsche AG, commented on the new collaboration with Frauscher Shipyard:

“Like Porsche sports cars, Frauscher electric boats offer our customers exceptional experience and performance. As an elegant day cruiser equipped with an innovative and powerful all-electric drive system, the 850 Phantom sets new standards in the nautical world.”

Electric powertrain derived from the Macan Turbo

The car is equipped with a fully electric powertrain and battery derived from the Porsche Macan Turbo, which delivers a maximum output of 400kW. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

The 850 Phantom, with its manageable dimensions of 8,670mm long and 2,490mm wide, is equipped with the e-Phantom drive unit, which is based on the fully electric powertrain found in the Porsche Macan. To transfer the technology from road to water, Porsche has adopted the rear-axle powertrain from the most powerful Macan Turbo.

The state-of-the-art permanently excited synchronous electric motor (PSM) delivers a maximum output of 400 kW. The electric motor is located in the rear section of the boat and is housed in a waterproof box embossed with the Porsche logo. The 100 kWh lithium-ion battery, taken from the Macan Turbo, is located beneath the rear lounge area. Wire rope-mounted suspension also helps absorb large impacts, such as those generated by rough seas and high-speed driving.

The interior features special seats with the Porsche Crest on the steering wheel and headrests. The cabin offers ample seating and lounge space. The maximum capacity is seven people, and the rear swimming platform leads to a spacious lounge area equipped with a comfortable sunbathing pad.

A high-end audio system with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity is standard, and various controls are available via a 12-inch infotainment display, which also includes an echo sounder and chart plotter. As with the Macan, a second screen for the passenger seat is available as an option.

Prices for the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Phantom start at 572,934 euros. All boats are manufactured at the Frauscher Ohldorf shipyard in Upper Austria. Porsche supplies the drive system, including the battery and control unit, as a pre-assembled module.
