Entries are now being accepted for the International Auto Film Festa 2025

A car movie festival from Japan

The International Auto Film Festa is an open competition for short automotive films (up to 15 minutes long). Originating in Japan, it is an international film festival that combines film and car culture, and for its second edition in 2024, 478 works were entered from 65 countries around the world. The genres were wide-ranging, ranging from commercials and promotional videos for car manufacturers and music videos by musicians, to original dramas and documentaries. The expressive techniques were also very diverse, including live action as well as CG and animation.

The 478 entries were judged by automotive media and journalists from various fields, and 21 were selected as finalists. The Grand Prix and other media awards were then decided in the final judging. The Grand Prix went to “Gears & Dunes,” a documentary film by a Portuguese director that follows a group of people on a desert adventure. Other media award winners included a promotional video for the Aston Martin DBX from the UK, a commercial for the EXIDE battery from India, and an original drama by a Spanish director.

Entries for the third edition in 2025 will be accepted until February 28th. Former F1 driver Ukyo Katayama has been appointed as a new judge, and submitted works will be judged from a wide range of perspectives by specialists and media from various fields both in Japan and abroad.

The video regulations state that the work must be completed or released after January 1, 2024, and must be no longer than 15 minutes long. Anyone can submit, regardless of nationality or age, as long as they are the creator themselves, whether they are an individual, group, or company. As long as the video work is car-themed, it can include not only commercials but also videos from social media sites like YouTube and Instagram.
