General Motors’ Chevrolet division has developed the ZR1, the top-of-the-line model of the eighth-generation (C8) Corvette. Equipped with a reinforced 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine mounted in the rear mid-engine, it boasts a top speed of 346 km/h and a quarter-mile acceleration time of under 10 seconds. Equipped with a special carbon fiber aero package, it delivers performance that far exceeds that of the previous C7 ZR1.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS, announced in 2022, is a further evolution of the 911 GT3, which is equipped with a 4.0-liter boxer 6 naturally aspirated engine. It is a high-performance model with special tuning for the engine and chassis, and features such as a swan-neck rear wing. While it can be driven on public roads, it is the model in the lineup that is particularly circuit-oriented.
The Corvette ZR1, with its characteristically elongated form typical of American sports cars, is 150mm longer in overall length and 266mm longer in wheelbase. Both models are equipped with special aerodynamic parts that generate powerful downforce on the circuit.

The Corvette ZR1’s 5.5-liter V8 “LT7” twin-turbo engine is based on the Z06’s LT6 5.5-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine and is twin-turbocharged. It is the first Corvette production engine to incorporate two turbochargers, giving it a maximum output of 1079 PS and a maximum torque of 1123 Nm.
The 911 GT3 RS’s 4.0-liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine produces a maximum output of 525 PS and a maximum torque of 465 Nm. The Corvette ZR1, which boasts a powerful power output of over 1,000 PS, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, beating the 911 GT3 RS by nearly a second.

The Corvette ZR1’s cockpit exudes the individuality of an American sports car. It features a 14-inch driver information center display, a 12.7-inch center console display, and a 6.6-inch touchscreen auxiliary display to the left of the steering wheel (left-hand drive).
The 911 GT3 RS features two 7-inch TFT displays with track screens and a rev counter in the center. The RaceTech GT sports steering wheel also features four rotary switches and a switch for the rear wing’s DRS (Drag Reduction System).
At this time, it has not been announced whether the Corvette ZR1 will be introduced in Japan, but the price in the US is $178,195 (approximately 28 million yen). Considering that the 911 GT3 RS costs 33.78 million yen, it is an astonishing price tag despite boasting nearly twice the power. If you can get rid of the stereotype that “American-made…”, the Corvette ZR1 will suddenly become a much more attractive car.
