To demonstrate the driving performance of the new Corvette, General Motors’ (GM) Chevrolet division brought the latest generation Corvette Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X to the 20.823 km long Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Three Chevrolet engineers with extensive experience and advanced driving skills who have been involved in vehicle development participated in this time attack. Although the development team did not include professional racing drivers, they recorded the fastest official lap time of any U.S. manufacturer.

Drew Cattle, a vehicle development engineer for the Corvette ZR1X, drove the all-electric ZR1X and recorded a lap time of 6 minutes 49.275 seconds, making him the fastest non-professional racing driver in the official Nürburgring lap record rankings.

Brian Wallace, Vehicle Dynamics Engineer for the Corvette ZR1, recorded a lap time of 6 minutes 50.763 seconds in the 1078 PS Corvette ZR1, while Vehicle Performance Manager Aron Link drove a Corvette Z06 with a lap time of 7 minutes 11.826 seconds.

General Motors Chairman Mark Reuss commented on the success of the time attack:

“No automaker in the world has ever dared to attempt a Nürburgring challenge like this. GM’s engineers and vehicles have proven that there are no limits on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. We can confidently say these are the greatest Corvettes ever built.”

A documentary following the challenge is released

Chevrolet brought the latest generation Corvette Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X to the Nürburgring Nordschleife to conduct a time attack.

“Homegrown Speed: A Corvette Story,” which follows three engineers’ time attack at the Nürburgring, has been released on Chevrolet’s official YouTube channel.

The three engineers had extensive experience driving on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with Ring having completed 800 laps, Wallace 425 laps, and Quatre 600. Together, they had visited the Nürburgring 31 times to develop and test GM models.

Additionally, the documentary film “Homegrown Speed: A Corvette Story,” which follows the Nürburgring Challenge, has been released on the official Chevrolet YouTube channel. It takes a look behind the scenes, from the GM-owned Milford Proving Ground to the Nürburgring challenge, and captures the hard work of the three Corvettes and three drivers.

General Motors (GM) Chevrolet will add the Corvette ZR1X, which combines a 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with the eAWD all-wheel drive system, starting in the 2026 model year. The system delivers a maximum output of 1,267 PS and achieves 0-60 mph acceleration in under two seconds. The Corvette ZR1X will be handcrafted by master engine builders at the Bowling Green Performance Build Center, and details regarding pricing and sales launch will be announced closer to the start of production.
