BMW M2
What is the BMW M2?

The BMW M2 is a compact coupe with a front-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and a 3.0-liter inline-6 twin-turbo engine.
The BMW M2 is a high-performance compact coupe produced by BMW M GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW. The current second-generation model (G87) was released in 2023. Its easy-to-handle body measures approximately 4,600mm in length and is equipped with the same 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo “S58” engine as the M3/M4, producing a maximum output of 480PS. It’s rear-wheel drive only, and features an Active M Differential and Adaptive M Suspension as standard, making it a model designed with circuit racing in mind. In addition to an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, a rare 6-speed manual transmission is also available. Despite its compact size, this model boasts powerful acceleration, sharp handling, and the traditional BMW inline-six sound.
BMW M2 exterior and interior

[1]

[2]
[1] Even though the M2 is compact, it has the impressive exterior of a BMW “M” model. [2] The interior has a driver-centric layout typical of BMW. The sports seats make a strong statement about the “M” design.
The BMW M2 combines a powerful, solid exterior with the functionally beautiful interior common to the latest M models.
Appearance: Exterior that combines a wide stance with aerodynamic performance
The front features a specially designed compact and wide kidney grille, with large air intakes on both sides of the bumper. It combines cooling and aerodynamic performance while also creating a visually powerful impression. The proportions created by the wide fenders and short overhangs give the car a dynamic look even when stopped. At the rear, the four tailpipes and three-dimensional diffuser create the powerful presence you expect from an M model. Optional M Performance parts can be installed to enhance the car’s presence and create a track-oriented style.
Interior: Driver-focused design and high-quality materials
The cockpit is laid out around the driver and is equipped with a BMW Curved Display (12.3-inch instrument panel and 14.9-inch center display). M-specific menus and driving mode settings can be intuitively operated, and the standard M sport seats combine comfort and support for both long-distance travel and sporty driving. Vernesca leather and carbon fiber trim complete the interior, creating a space that visually draws you into the world of driving. Choosing the optional M carbon bucket seats dramatically improves the sense of support when driving on a circuit.
BMW M2 dimensions

[3]

[4]
[3] The M2 is the most compact of BMW’s rear-wheel drive models. [4] Despite being a compact high-performance model, it offers ample cabin and trunk space.
The BMW M2 has a compact body with wide and low proportions, which makes it easy to handle and gives it a high sense of stability. Its size design makes it easy to handle in the city, while also delivering performance on the circuit.
Body size: Low center of gravity and wide proportions for increased stability
The car has a total length of 4580mm, width of 1885mm, height of 1410mm and a wheelbase of 2745mm. Compared to its predecessor (F87 model), the total length has been extended by 112mm and the total width increased by 33mm, emphasizing a wider stance. The low center of gravity achieved by the short front and rear overhangs and wide tread improves cornering stability and steering response. The total width is within the range of a typical Japanese parking space, but within that range it still manages to create an impressive appearance.
Interior space: A cabin layout that combines comfort and practicality
Improved packaging ensures ample headroom and legroom in the front seats. The M sport seats provide firm support even during sporty driving, making long drives less tiring. The rear seats seat two people and provide ample space for adults to sit for short periods, and can also be used for luggage storage. The trunk capacity is approximately 390L, allowing for ample luggage for weekend trips or circuit driving.
BMW M2 driving performance and fuel economy

The heart of the M2 is the straight-six engine inherited from the M3 and M4, which balances high performance and fuel economy at a high level.
The BMW M2 is equipped with a highly rigid chassis that can withstand circuit driving and a powerful straight-six engine, making it suitable for a wide range of driving situations, from everyday use to sports driving. At the same time, the latest fuel control technology has enabled it to achieve good fuel economy for its class.
Driving performance: High-power engine and agile handling
The 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder twin-turbo “S58” engine produces a maximum output of 480 PS (353 kW) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm (8-speed AT) (6-speed MT = 550 Nm). The 8-speed M Steptronic AT boasts 0-100 km/h acceleration of 4.0 seconds (6-speed MT = 4.2 seconds). The rear-wheel drive is combined with an active M differential to optimize traction during cornering. The adaptive M suspension and high-performance brakes provide stable driving and sharp response.
Fuel efficiency: A balance of efficiency and practicality achieved through cutting-edge technology
The BMW M2’s fuel economy is said to be 10km/L (8-speed automatic transmission) (6-speed manual transmission = 9.8km/L) in the WLTC mode, which takes into account a wide range of conditions from city driving to highway cruising. This is an excellent figure for a straight-six twin-turbo engine with nearly 500 horsepower, and the adoption of electronically controlled fuel injection, continuously variable valve lift “Valvetronic,” and continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing “Double VANOS” contributes to efficiency. The engine generates abundant torque from low rpm, making it possible to reduce fuel consumption not only at high speeds but also at low speeds.
BMW M2 purchase price and maintenance costs

It is a relatively affordable model among M models, but it still costs over 10 million yen.
The BMW M2 is a relatively affordable high-performance model within the M brand, but its purchase price exceeds 10 million yen. Maintenance costs, including taxes, insurance, and consumables, are also at a level commensurate with its performance.

Frequently asked questions about the BMW M2

[10]

[11]
[10] Although it has less power than the M3 and M4, the M2 features the same engine and a compact body. [11] It can be used for everyday driving, but it also has the advantage of being fun to drive on the circuit.
Below, we answer some of the most common questions and doubts about the BMW M2.
Q1. What are the major differences between the BMW M2 and the M3/M4?
A. The M2 is more compact than the M3/M4, has a shorter wheelbase, and is characterized by its light handling. The engine is of the same type, but the power output has been slightly reduced through tuning. It is priced relatively affordably and is popular as a model that is easy to handle on narrow roads and winding roads.
Q2. Is the BMW M2 suitable for everyday use?
A. The body size is relatively compact at just under 4.6m in length, making it easy to handle in the city and in parking lots. The suspension is more sporty, but by using the comfort mode of the Adaptive M suspension, you can ensure a comfortable ride even in everyday driving.
Q3. How much does the BMW M2 lose when sold?
A. BMW’s M models have high brand value and performance ratings, and there is a certain demand for them in the used market.
