BMW Panoramic iDrive
First introduced in the mass-produced “Neue Klasse”

BMW’s press conference held at CEC 2025. The BMW Panoramic iDrive will be first installed in the mass-produced Neue Klasse, which will be manufactured from the end of 2025.
The BMW Group unveiled the production version of the new BMW Panoramic iDrive, featuring BMW Panoramic Vision, which delivers an innovative driving experience, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Visitors can experience the BMW Panoramic iDrive for themselves at the BMW booth at the venue.
BMW Panoramic iDrive is equipped with the newly developed BMW Operating System X, which acts as the intelligence hub behind the new display and operating concept. This modern and stylishly designed infotainment system is due to be introduced in all new BMW models from the end of 2025.
Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management for Development at BMW AG, explained BMW Panoramic iDrive during a presentation at CES 2025:
“The new BMW Panoramic iDrive combines advanced technology with exceptionally intuitive operation. Its operating concept embodies a quarter of a century of BMW’s cutting-edge research and technological leadership.”
“We have now made even more advancements to the world’s most comprehensive infotainment system. By integrating and processing data from several different disciplines, we are once again setting the benchmark in the automotive industry. Starting with the first series-produced Neue Klasse from the end of 2025, BMW Panoramic iDrive will become an integral part of all future BMW models.”
Cockpit with four new features

The BMW Panoramic iDrive will introduce four new features, including the BMW 3D Head-Up Display shown in the photo and a multifunction steering wheel.
BMW Panoramic iDrive combines four core elements into a unique display and operating concept, providing a new driving experience for the driver and passengers.
The newly developed BMW 3D Head-Up Display projects content onto the windshield, from the driver’s A-pillar to the passenger’s A-pillar, projecting various information onto the lower part of the windshield for all passengers to see.
The most important driving information is projected into the driver’s field of vision on the left side of the BMW Panoramic Vision (left-hand drive vehicles), above the steering wheel. Using the center display, the driver can customise the content shown in the centre and right sides of the BMW Panoramic Vision, and navigation and automated driving information can also be displayed directly in the driver’s field of vision. The BMW Panoramic Vision and the content shown on the BMW 3D Head-Up Display are linked together.
The center display, which uses matrix backlight technology, features a state-of-the-art menu structure with quick selection. Touch-operated functions and optimal operation tailored to the content are now possible. The display, which features a free-cut design, is located near the steering wheel in an ergonomically ideal position, making it easy for anyone to operate.
The selected content (widget) can be transferred to the BMW Panoramic Vision by simply swiping the center display. Up to six widgets can be created and arranged freely within the BMW Panoramic Vision.
The newly developed “Multifunction Steering Wheel” uses BMW’s unique “ShyTech” approach, with related buttons illuminating to highlight available functions. The steering wheel functions as a physical control, with each button providing active haptic feedback. The button surfaces are embossed, allowing the driver to press them without taking their eyes off the wheel.
Equipped on all new models from the end of 2025

BMW Panoramic iDrive, which incorporates the BMW Operating System X, is scheduled to be installed in all new BMW models from the end of 2025.
The development of BMW Panoramic iDrive has included extensive usage and driving data provided by more than 22 million connected BMW vehicles, as well as numerous studies conducted in the BMW Group Usability Labs, with around 3,000 customers taking part. All decisions regarding operation are based on the data obtained from these studies.
The newly introduced “BMW Operating System X” is an updated version of the latest operating system used in many BMW models. It was developed entirely in-house by BMW and, like the currently introduced “BMW Operating System 9,” is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). It also supports the addition of new functions, ensuring that vehicles equipped with BMW Panoramic iDrive will maintain cutting-edge technology for the long term.
Stephan Durrach, Senior Vice President Connected at BMW Group, added:
“With the inclusion of BMW Operating System X, the overall concept of BMW Panoramic iDrive represents a major technological leap forward, offering intuitive operation, an emotionally engaging experience and even more specific personalisation.”
BMW Panoramic iDrive is also highly scalable and is scheduled to be installed in all new BMW models from the end of 2025.
