The “S” designation originates from “DBS”

The DBX S has now been released as the flagship model of the DBX series. The origin of the “S” in commercial models dates back to the DBS, which was released in 1967.

The newly announced “DBX S” is a high-performance model that reigns at the pinnacle of the series, with an “S” at the end of its model name. The “S” in the model name is said to have originated from the “DBS”, which reigned as Aston Martin’s flagship for three generations: 1967, 2007, and 2018.

Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark commented on the DBX S:

“Over the past two years, Aston Martin has introduced its next-generation sports car and the new DBX, all of which feature new infotainment systems developed in-house. We will continue to expand our product range across our core models, with a focus on class-leading performance, ultra-luxury design and innovation.”

“DBX S reaffirms Aston Martin’s commitment to creating the most exciting, rewarding and beautiful cars possible. It also sends a powerful message about our ambitions not only for DBX, but for the Aston Martin brand as a whole.”

Equipped with a power unit derived from Valhalla

The introduction of turbocharger technology gained from feedback from the development of the Valhalla has resulted in a maximum output of 727PS, 20PS higher than the DBX707.

At the heart of the DBX S is an upgraded 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, which, thanks to various updates including turbo technology such as a large compressor wheel inherited directly from the Valhalla, boasts an output of 727 PS, an increase of 20 PS from the DBX707. The increased output at the highest revs delivers intense performance on a par with that of a sports car.

Like the DBX707, the DBX S also features variable torque split between the front and rear, allowing for rear-wheel drive driving with up to 50% torque sent to the front and 100% to the rear axle. The exhaust system has also been revised to complement the stronger turbochargers, adding a distinctive DBX S sound to the V8 engine.

The specs are 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.3 seconds, 0-200km/h acceleration 0.3 seconds faster than the DBX, and the top speed is 310km/h, the same as the DBX.

Exclusive exterior that highlights the “S”

The Exria features a number of exclusive aerodynamic features, highlighting its high driving performance as an “S” model.

The front section of the car features a striking pure black “vaned” grille, combined with a new splitter and diffuser and distinctive wraparound daytime running lights. An optional lightweight polycarbonate honeycomb grille inspired by the DBS 770 Ultimate is also available.

The side sections feature newly shaped sills. These sills are designed to efficiently direct airflow from the sides of the body to the rear. Carbon fiber can also be selected for the side mirrors, side strakes, and door sills. A special “S” badge is placed on the front fender. The area around the badge is plated in bright chrome or dark chrome to match the wing color selected by the owner.

The rear section features new quad exhaust pipes available in gloss or matte finishes, while a redesigned rear bumper and diffuser can be equipped with optional carbon fiber components to shave a further 7kg.

The exterior is available in three colors: Rosso Corsa Red, Trophy Silver, and Podium Green. Red accents for the lower body extend from the front splitter, diffuser, and side sills to the rear, dramatically framing the quad exhausts.

Carbon fiber roof introduced

Now available as an option is a carbon fiber roof, one of the largest carbon fiber parts ever made by Aston Martin.

In addition to the increased power output, the car’s weight has also been reduced. The new optional carbon fiber roof is one of the largest carbon fiber components ever made by an Aston Martin. At nearly three metres in length, it has been made even lighter than the base model thanks to the omission of roof rails.

Aston Martin is also the first in the SUV segment to offer optional magnesium wheels, a material that is not only strong but also incredibly light, making it approximately 75% lighter than steel and one-third lighter than aluminium.

The optional 23-inch magnesium wheels reduce unsprung weight by 19 kg, improving ride comfort, steering precision and drive feel, as well as significantly improving responsiveness to driving inputs. 23-inch forged aluminum wheels are standard.

Uses a special “heliborne pattern”

The interior features a sporty herringbone pattern exclusive to the “S” model.

The DBX S is equipped with Aston Martin’s cutting-edge infotainment system, developed in-house. The standard sports seats feature a unique herringbone pattern that widens as you move up the seat to emphasize the sense of speed, and the headliner also features the same herringbone pattern if the optional carbon fiber roof is selected.

The seats are embroidered with the Aston Martin ‘S’, the headrests are embossed and debossed using a special process to create the Aston Martin wings in the leather, and the ‘S’ logo also appears on the treadplates and engine plaque.

The standard trim features Alcantara on the seats, headliner, center console, lower instrument panel, and upper trim. Semi-aniline leather, which blends naturally with Alcantara, is used in high-wear areas such as the seat bolsters. For an even more luxurious feel, all trim can be upgraded to semi-aniline leather.

DBX is Aston Martin's only SUV.
