CONCEPT AMG GT XX
New 24-hour EV record set

The Concept AMG GT XX covered 5,479 km in a 24-hour EV driving challenge, beating the previous record by 1,518 km.
In June 2025, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the Concept AMG GT XX, developed based on the latest fully electric powertrain, AMG.EA, at the Affalterbach event held in Affalterbach, Germany.
The Concept AMG GT XX is a fully electric concept that previews the next-generation four-door mass-produced sports car being developed by Mercedes-AMG. It is based on the innovative fully electric architecture “AMG.EA,” which combines three axial motors with the high-performance battery “HP.EB (High Performance Electric Battery),” and is equipped with many innovative new technologies that will be introduced in future mass-produced models.
In August 2025, Mercedes-AMG took the Concept AMG GT XX to Nardo, Italy, for an endurance driving challenge, setting 25 world records. This included the 24-hour distance record for an electric vehicle, where the Concept AMG GT XX covered 5,479 km while repeatedly fast charging. This exceeded the previous record by 1,518 km, or approximately 38%.
Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes-Benz, commented after completing the record attempt:
“Mercedes-AMG has a long history of setting various records here at Nardo, and not just in motorsport. This time, our goal was to redefine the technological boundaries of electric vehicles. Right from the start, the team made up of Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz Mobility and our F1 powertrain experts showed boundless passion and dedication. I am extremely proud of what has been achieved in this unique record run.”
Traveled over 40,000 km at a speed of 300 km/h

The Concept AMG GT XX significantly exceeded its original goal of 40,000 km in eight days, completing the 40,075 km distance, equivalent to one lap around the Earth, in seven days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds.
This record attempt was a tough challenge that lasted far longer than 24 hours, with the goal being to travel around the world in eight days, a name that naturally references Jules Verne’s famous adventure novel, Around the World in Eight Days.
The greatest strain on the motor and battery of an electric vehicle comes from alternating high-load driving and fast charging, so the Concept AMG GT XX was designed to cover the maximum distance in the shortest possible time.
The driver maintained a speed of 300 km/h, stopping only to charge the vehicle. The average charging output was approximately 850 kW, exceeding the capacity of current charging infrastructure. This fully demonstrated the potential of the mass-produced fully electric powertrain, allowing the car to continue driving day and night for eight days without rest except for charging.
In the early hours of August 25, 2025, the Concept AMG GT XX covered 40,075 km (24,901 miles), a distance equivalent to one lap around the Earth, in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds, significantly exceeding its original target of eight days. Along the way, the Concept AMG GT XX also set 25 endurance records.
F1 driver Russell also joins the challenge

Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 driver George Russell also took part in the endurance challenge and was full of praise for the Concept AMG GT XX’s performance.
Two Concept AMG GT XXs took part in this endurance challenge. They started at the same time and managed to complete a full lap around the Earth, driving for over seven days. The second car covered 25 kilometres less than the first, which is equivalent to two laps of the Nardo circuit.
This time, the car completed 3,177 laps of the 12.68km Nardo circuit. Experienced racing drivers, including F1 driver George Russell, took two-hour shifts to drive, covering an average of 5,300km per day. During the day, the car was exposed to direct sunlight, with temperatures rising to 35°C. These were tough conditions for an electric vehicle.
During the race, the Mercedes-AMG pit crew will be in charge of charging and changing tires, and a remote support room in Affalterbach will be connected at all times and provide fire and rescue services around the clock. External specialists include tire supplier Michelin and charging station provider Alpitronic.
F1 driver George Russell, who took on the long-distance challenge behind the wheel of the Concept AMG GT XX, reflected on the drive as follows:
“As an F1 driver, I’m used to pushing technology to its limits, but even I was blown away by the Concept AMG GT XX. The axial motor has the same instantaneous and precise response as an F1 drivetrain, but with the durability of an internal combustion engine. This technology will revolutionize the driving experience, both on the race track and on the open road.”
