The difference between the two cars can be seen from the rear style

The Passat is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four turbo engine, while the A4 Avant is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four turbo engine. However, the Passat uses an advanced variable geometry turbo, achieving power and torque that is almost comparable to the A4 Avant’s 2.0-liter turbo.

Furthermore, the Passat is a mild hybrid that combines an engine with a motor, which provides powerful assistance when starting. In terms of power performance, it is likely to compete well with the A4 Avant.

Are high costs affecting the Passat’s price?

The price difference between the Passat and the A4 Avant is 862,000 yen. Since Volkswagen is a mass-market brand, a price of over 5 million yen could be considered aggressive. However, considering the recent inflation and the weak yen, this may be unavoidable.

The price of the A4 Avant exceeds 6 million yen even for the base model. However, since Audi is a premium brand, this price is probably reasonable. This is because it includes the driving performance and various luxury features that cannot be expressed in the specs.
