The MINI John Cooper Works’ first ever BEV models, the MINI John Cooper Works E (hereafter referred to as the MINI JCW E) and the MINI John Cooper Works Aceman E (hereafter referred to as the MINI JCW Aceman E), have made their debut.

This may be preaching to the choir for enthusiasts, but “John Cooper Works” refers to a sub-brand that handles high-performance MINI models. It’s a sports model named after John Cooper, who dominated the motorsports world in the 1960s. Incidentally, John Cooper is a legendary figure who won the Monte Carlo Rally three times in a Mini that he tuned himself.

The new MINI John Cooper Works models currently on sale include the internal combustion engine models “MINI JCW,” “MINI JCW Convertible,” and “MINI JCW Countryman ALL4,” and with the addition of the two newly announced BEV models, the JCW lineup is finally complete.

Focus on the E-Boost function

The biggest feature of the newly announced MINI JCW E and MINI JCW Aceman E is their use of a BEV-specific architecture. A fairly large 54.2kWh battery is installed under the floor, achieving a maximum output of 190kW and a maximum torque of 350Nm. This is 20kW more than the output of the internal combustion engine models, the MINI JCW and MINI JCW Convertible. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h is also impressive, at 5.9 seconds (MINI JCW E) and 6.4 seconds (MINI JCW Aceman E). Incidentally, the driving range per charge is 421km for the MINI JCW E and 403km for the MINI JCW Aceman E.

The unique “E-Boost” function is a unique feature that can only be achieved with an electric vehicle. When activated, an additional 20kW of power is supplied for 10 seconds, providing a thrilling acceleration experience. This function is useful when merging onto the highway.

The adoption of a BEV-specific architecture also contributes to improved aerodynamic performance: the flat underbody, closed grille, and sporty bumper and rear spoiler unique to JCW models are said to improve aerodynamics compared to internal combustion JCW models.

The seat has excellent holding power, making it an attractive option.

The suspension is the same as other JCW models, with a specially tuned JCW sports suspension, so owners can enjoy the quick driving they expect. The exterior is also typical of a JCW model, with an octagonal grille framed in a high-gloss black frame, a newly designed JCW checkered flag emblem, and durable solid color bonnet stripes as standard equipment, differentiating it from other MINI models.

The interior design is similar to the new MINI, but as befits a top-of-the-line model, comfort has been improved with electric front seats and a Harman/Kardon loudspeaker system as standard. Of course, as with the latest models, it is also equipped with high-performance ADAS, parking assist, reverse assist, and an intelligent personal assistant that allows you to operate the vehicle and access information via voice conversation.

The price for the MINI JCW E is 6.16 million yen, and the price for the MINI JCW Aceman E is 6.41 million yen.
