Volkswagen unveiled the ID.GTI Concept for the first time in Japan at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, the annual New Year’s custom car festival that opened at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The ID.GTI Concept is a modern interpretation of the image of the GTI, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and is based on the fully electric compact ID.2 all, the de facto successor to the Polo. This cutting-edge hot hatch combines intuitive sportiness with a futuristic feel not only in its exterior but also in its power performance and interface.

It’s not just an EV, but a modern-day rebirth of the “GTI legend” that once outran large-displacement vehicles on the Autobahn. Unfortunately, it has not yet been decided whether it will be introduced in Japan, but depending on the reaction, it is not impossible that it will be introduced.

Also on display was the ID.Buzz Pro Long Wheelbase, a homage to the Type 2, affectionately known as the Volkswagen Bus. This one-of-a-kind fully electric minivan combines heritage with the latest technology, making it a new-age VW icon that combines everyday use with adorable styling.

The limited edition Golf R Black Edition, a high-performance model of the Golf R, was also on display. Its black livery and exclusive equipment give it a refined appearance, conveying a sense of traditional performance combined with modern aesthetics.
