The annual New Year’s custom car festival, “Tokyo Auto Salon 2026,” kicked off at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. BYD, participating for the third time, exhibited a total of six models, including the light EV “Raccoon,” which also attracted attention at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, as well as five other models.

The light EV “Raccoon,” scheduled for release this summer, is still a concept exhibit, but it has been announced that the standard model will have a battery capacity of 20kWh and a maximum range of 200km, while the long-range model will have a battery capacity of 30kWh and a maximum range of 300km.

The Sea Lion 6, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV that touts itself as a super hybrid, surprised many with its high performance and low price, and the company will be introducing a follow-up PHEV this year.
