In 2021, Ferrari launched the 296 GTB as its second mass-produced plug-in hybrid. The 296 GTB is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.0-liter V6 turbo with a motor, achieving both driving performance and high efficiency. It has become very popular in markets around the world.
The 296 Speciale, which will be introduced in the Japanese market from 2025, is Ferrari’s latest high-performance berlinetta, following the Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale, and 488 Pista. Making full use of the 296 GTB’s components, including the powertrain and chassis, the car offers significantly improved performance in terms of agility, turn-in responsiveness, and stability.
The 296 Speciale features an exterior inspired by motorsports. It features a special front shape, vertical fins on the rear bumper, and an active rear spoiler that combines side wings. This makes the body 40mm longer and 10mm wider than the 296 GTB. The extensive use of carbon fiber components also contributes to a weight reduction of 60kg.

The rear-mid mounted 3.0-liter 120-degree V6 twin-turbo engine adopts the engine management mapping and boost strategy from the 296 Challenge. In addition, by adopting titanium connecting rods, reinforced pistons, and a lightweight crankshaft, the engine alone achieves a maximum output of 700 PS, an increase of 37 PS from the 296 GTB.
For a rear-wheel drive Ferrari production model, it boasts the strongest system output ever, at 880 PS, and achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.8 seconds.

The 296 Speciale’s interior has also been made lighter by reducing decorative elements and using carbon fiber, aluminum, and Alcantara extensively. The structural parts of the center tunnel have all been changed to carbon fiber, and the exposed fasteners create an atmosphere like a racing car.
With improvements to every component, including a powerful powertrain and a 20% increase in downforce, the 296 Speciale is essentially a road-legal racing car. For that reason alone, the price tag has risen to 59.11 million yen, up 19.72 million yen from the 296 GTB.
The 296 Speciale tends to focus on driving performance, but as a plug-in hybrid model, it has a range of approximately 25km in EV mode.It also maintains the practicality of the 296 GTB, such as interior comfort and luggage space.
