The more compact model is the EX30

The biggest difference in body size is the overall length. The Hyundai Kona is over 10cm longer than the Volvo EX30, but the differences in other measurements are only a few centimeters. The EX30 weighs 60kg more than the Kona. This is roughly the weight of an adult male, and in the long run, this is likely to result in a difference in power consumption and agility.

The tire size is also different. The Kona has a standard 17-inch tire, while the EX30 has a low-profile 19-inch tire, so you can expect a sportier ride from the EX30.

Kona has a longer range

Both vehicles share a lithium-ion battery and electric motor in their powertrains. However, the EX30 is rear-wheel drive, while the Kona is front-wheel drive. The motor specifications are also different. The EX30 significantly exceeds the Kona in terms of maximum power and torque.

The battery capacities are similar, with the EX30 at 69kWh and the Kona at 64.8kWh. And while the batteries are roughly the same capacity, there’s a difference in range: the EX30’s is 560km, while the Kona’s is 625km (both in WLTC mode). The difference of 65km is not to be overlooked.

As mentioned above, the EX30 has the advantage in terms of performance, but the price difference between the two cars is large. The EX30 is 1,069,000 yen more expensive than the Kona. Although there is a difference in power, if you are not going very fast and want a long range from an EV, the Kona may be more cost-effective.
