HYPER FORGED ESR × LEAP DESIGN
MASERATI GranTurismo
The first complete car

The second-generation GranTurismo is the latest creation from Leap Design, which develops original aero parts primarily for Italian luxury brands. The menu includes front spoilers, side steps, rear under spoilers, and trunk spoilers. Using carbon fiber, as in this development vehicle, would give it a much sportier look, while FRP in the same color as the body would emphasize its elegant atmosphere. The second-generation GranTurismo was released in 2022. It is a 2+2 coupe (cabriolet) in the tradition of Maserati. In addition to the ICE (3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo), this model will also be available in BEV (Folgore) version.
“Even if there aren’t many of them available, there’s meaning in continuing. We will do whatever it takes to have a full lineup,” said Takeshi Ohata, president of Leap Design. They develop various body parts for the world’s leading super sports and high-end cars, as if to further strengthen their muscular bodies, but they are particularly proactive with modern Maseratis. They will maintain a full lineup to keep up with all the rebirths of Maserati.
That’s why they were the first to complete a complete car of the second-generation GranTurismo, which only began deliveries at the end of 2023. Even though it is still a rare car, carbon fiber aero parts on the front, rear and sides already add a sporty touch to its sleek body.
Hyperforged is the driving force behind Leap Design’s activities, and this latest addition is no exception. The decision was made to immediately replace the wheels with ESR wheels. Despite their distinctive star spoke design, these wheels are known for suiting everything from the latest super sports cars to high-end saloons and even heavy-duty cars. Just one look at this GranTurismo will reveal just how well-matched they are.
Not only Leap Design but also Hyperforged have ample experience with the previous GranTurismo. But this time, they considered matching the car from scratch. The second-generation GranTurismo, like the Grecale, is based on an evolved version of the Giorgio platform, designed to be equipped with a large battery and electric motor. It is a completely different vehicle from the first-generation GranTurismo, which was closely related to Ferrari. The suspension configuration is said to be similar to that of Alfa Romeo’s line of models. Hyperforged’s unique approach is to discern these differences and tailor the car to fit the car to the millimeter. The front wheels are 10.0J x 21 inches, and the rear wheels are 12.0J x 22 inches, both one inch higher than the original. The front wheels are 275/25ZR21, and the rear wheels are 335/25ZR22, both extremely thick.
A perfect match with Italian brands

Five twin spokes create a star-shaped design. The joints of the spokes, which are placed around the center, are three-dimensional and show different expressions depending on the angle. The brushed black disc and gloss black rim are connected with 12 classic piercing bolts. The tires are 275/25ZR21 in the front and 335/25ZR22 in the rear, and are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
The front is semi-concave to cleverly accommodate the large-diameter brake system, while the rear is a super deep concave that exudes a three-dimensional effect. The five spokes that form a star shape drop boldly towards the centre, creating a beautiful design. At first glance, it appears to be a simple design, but it apparently required a great deal of design know-how and an enormous amount of processing time. In addition to the beauty of the wheel itself, the suspension settings, which have been lowered with the iiD lowering kit, and the aforementioned Leap Design spoiler and diffuser, all contribute to a look that is truly reminiscent of a supercar.
The finish is a sophisticated all-black color. The brushed black discs give off a truly forged texture, while the gloss black rims are combined. Both are anodized, making them far more durable than regular paint. The edgy design and beautiful surface are a sight to behold. The piercing bolts that connect the discs to the rim are a classic type, shining like a unique accent on the wheel. This coordination also seems to harmonize beautifully with this historic and traditional Italian brand.
The development vehicle was a Modena equipped with a 3.0-liter V6, but the second-generation GranTurismo also includes a BEV model, the Folgore. This model has a system output of 560kW and a vehicle weight of 2,260kg, but Hyperforged is committed to manufacturing products that take into account the performance requirements of such a car. As with the Leap Design philosophy, even if there are only a limited number of these cars available and they are potentially one-of-a-kind, Hyperforged will continue to pursue wheel matching to the fullest extent possible if there is a need for them.
