Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology Edition 1
Achieves off-road performance that exceeds that of ICE models

Equipped with four independent motors, it achieves features such as “G-TURN” that allows for on-the-spot turning and “G-STEERING” that significantly reduces the minimum turning radius, achieving off-road performance that exceeds that of models equipped with an ICE (internal combustion engine).
Since its debut, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has continued to evolve by constantly adding optimal powertrains and equipment while maintaining its basic styling and robust body. In 2018, the G-Class underwent its biggest improvement in history, and by actively incorporating Mercedes-Benz’s latest technologies, it is said to have achieved the best performance on and off-road.
The new G-Class lineup now includes the first fully electric model. While retaining the G-Class’ design and off-road performance, the car combines an innovative driving concept unique to EVs to offer a completely new off-road experience that cannot be enjoyed with an internal combustion engine model.
The G 580 with EQ Technology Edition 1, which will be introduced in the Japanese market, is equipped with newly developed four-wheel independent motors. Each motor has a maximum output of 108 kW, with two motors installed on the front and rear axles of a specially reinforced ladder frame, delivering a maximum system output of 587 PS (432 kW) and a maximum torque of 1,164 Nm.
It is equipped with cutting-edge off-road features such as “G-TURN,” which allows for on-the-spot turning using four-wheel independent motors, and “G-STEERING,” which significantly reduces the minimum turning radius. It also boasts a maximum wading depth of 850mm, surpassing the 700mm of the “G 450 d.” Despite being an EV, the company claims it has the same or even better off-road capabilities as an internal combustion engine model.
The “G 580 with EQ Technology Edition 1” comes standard with comfort features such as MBUX and Keyless Go, as well as the latest safety driving support systems such as Active Steering Assist and Automatic Restart. It is a special edition vehicle commemorating the launch of the car, featuring many exclusive special features.
Exclusive exterior highlighting the fully electric model

Instead of a spare tire, the tailgate is fitted with a specially designed box that can store charging cables, tools, etc., clearly highlighting that this is the first fully electric G-Class model.
The “G 580 with EQ Technology Edition 1” retains the traditional G-Class styling, such as the square body, distinctive door handles, and front fender turn signal lenses, but also features an advanced exterior with EV-specific details, such as a powerful bonnet hood with a raised rear end and air curtains added to the rear wheel arches.
A stylish, dedicated design box has been installed on the tailgate in place of the spare tire. Inside the design box, charging cables, tools, etc. can be stored. The “Black Panel Radiator Grille” including an LED light band and black panel is available as an option. The black panel design, combined with the traditional round headlights, highlights that this is the first fully electric model in the G-Class.
The “AMG Line Package” comes as standard, and many “Edition 1” exclusive features have also been introduced, such as the “Night Package,” 20-inch AMG aluminum wheels with special black paint, side strip lines with blue accents, and blue brake calipers.
The body color lineup includes five colors: “MANUFAKTUR Opalis White Magno,” “MANUFAKTUR South Sea Blue Magno,” “MANUFAKTUR Opalis White,” “MANUFAKTUR Classic Gray,” and “Obsidian Black.”
Traditional interior with EV-specific accents

While retaining the G-Class-like interior features such as round air outlets, many EV-specific features have been introduced, such as blue accents incorporated into various parts.
The luxurious interior, which combines high-quality materials and craftsmanship, follows the traditional G-Class design, including the round air outlets and the passenger-side grip handle. The area around the distinctive differential lock switch has been redesigned specifically for the G 580 with EQ Technology, and the G-TURN and G-STEERING activation switches have been functionally laid out.
It is equipped with many of the latest features, including the infotainment system “MBUX,” the latest generation multifunction steering wheel, Keyless Go, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system, achieving significant improvements in convenience. The “AMG Line Package,” nappa leather seats, nappa leather dashboard, and MICROCUT roof liner are all standard equipment.
Exclusive to the “Edition 1” is blue stitching on the steering wheel, seats, dashboard, and other parts, as well as AMG carbon fiber interior trim with blue accents. Silver pearl/black nappa leather seats (with blue stitching) are also standard. In addition to heated front seats, the car also comes equipped with a relaxation function, seat ventilators, and the Energizing Package Plus.
The rear seats are also finished in nappa leather with blue stitching, and the car also features heated rear seats and a “cargo position” backrest angle adjustment function. This cargo position ensures livability by tilting the backrest back, and allows for increased luggage capacity without stowing the rear seats. The luggage room capacity is normally 620L, but can be expanded to a maximum of 1990L by folding down the 60/40 split-folding rear seats.
Performance that exceeds the Mercedes-AMG G 63

Equipped with Mercedes’ first four-wheel independent motors, it achieves performance that exceeds that of the Mercedes-AMG G 63, with a maximum system output of 587 PS and maximum torque of 1,164 Nm.
The “G 580 with EQ Technology” is the first fully electric Mercedes-Benz model to feature four-wheel independent motors. Together with a two-speed transmission and control system, these form the “eATS.” Despite being a battery-powered EV, it boasts performance that exceeds that of the Mercedes-AMG G 63.
Permanent magnet synchronous motors are positioned near each of the four wheels, delivering excellent driving performance both on and off-road. The four motors are mounted two on each of the front and rear axles of the ladder frame, driving the wheels via short shafts. Each motor has a maximum output of 108kW, achieving impressive specifications of a maximum system output of 587PS and maximum torque of 1164Nm. The ESP and central control unit ensure that motor torque is accurately transmitted to each wheel, achieving overwhelming power and controllability even on steep gradients and slippery surfaces.
The 116kWh high-capacity lithium-ion battery uses a modular design with a total of 216 cells housed in 12 modules. The battery is housed in a steel ladder frame up to 4mm thick, contributing to a low center of gravity while significantly increasing the vehicle’s rigidity. To prevent the intrusion of mud and water, the battery is housed in a case with excellent torsional rigidity, ensuring outstanding performance even during intense off-road driving.
A large-capacity lithium-ion battery, a highly efficient synchronous motor, and a highly efficient regenerative braking system ensure a maximum driving range of 530km.The car is equipped with a charging system that supports both AC standard charging (AC200V) and DC rapid charging (CHAdeMO), with an output of up to 6kW for AC standard charging and 150kW for DC rapid charging.
