MERCEDES-AMG GT 63

The larger Continental GT

Comparing the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic+ with the recently fully redesigned Bentley Continental GT Speed, the Continental GT is longer (+165mm) and taller (+19mm), and its wheelbase is also 151mm longer. Furthermore, the Continental GT is a PHEV and is equipped with a lithium-ion battery that allows for EV operation. Naturally, the Continental GT is heavier, with a significant weight difference of approximately 500kg.

However, the Continental GT appears larger than its actual dimensions, likely due to its design approach. The Continental GT emphasizes a sense of luxury, as can be seen in its front face, which is characteristic of Bentley. On the other hand, the AMG GT’s styling prioritizes aerodynamics, which are effective for circuit driving. If asked which one looks more like a sports car, many people would probably answer the AMG GT.

Body size = Length 4895mm x Width 1966mm x Height 1397mm

Wheelbase = 2851mm

Vehicle weight = 2459kg

Tire size = 275/35ZR22 (front) / 315/30ZR22 (rear)

Body size = Length 4730mm x Width 1985mm x Height 1355mm

Wheelbase = 2700mm

Vehicle weight = 1940kg

Tire size = 295/30R21 (front) / 305/30R21 (rear)

Continental GT wins in power-to-weight ratio

The two cars share many commonalities in their powertrains. Both are equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine and are AWD. However, the Continental GT is a plug-in hybrid vehicle that combines an engine with a powerful 190 PS motor, while the AMG GT is a pure engine vehicle that is not even a mild hybrid. While their displacement and boost systems are similar, the Continental GT, with the assistance of a powerful motor, has a higher total system output, reaching 782 PS/1000 Nm.

So, if we calculate the power-to-weight ratio of both cars, the Continental GT is 3.14 kg/PS and the AMG GT is 3.32 kg/PS, which means that the Continental GT outperforms the AMG GT. The Continental GT is large and heavy, but its power performance should never be underestimated.

Drive system = AWD

Engine type = V8 DOHC twin turbocharger Displacement

Maximum power = 585PS/5500-6500rpm

Maximum torque = 800Nm/2500-5000rpm

Transmission = 9-speed AT

Drive system = AWD

Is the AMG GT the best value for money?

The price difference between the two cars is a large one of about 11.8 million yen, which is likely due to the fact that the Continental GT is a plug-in hybrid and the difference in the brand’s positioning.

From the perspective of a high-performance sports GT model, the AMG GT seems like a bargain, and considering Mercedes-Benz’s extensive authorized dealer network, it seems like the AMG GT is also easy to own.

Vehicle price

The new Bentley Continental GT is already available in Japan as a PHEV with a newly developed 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine.

The launch event for the new fourth-generation Bentley Continental GT, which recently had its world premiere, was held at Takeshiba in Tokyo. The model is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharger instead of the 6.0-liter W12, and is also equipped with a newly developed PHEV powertrain.
