Where to place the tuner

I recently bought a new TV for my new home. My new home is on the second floor of an apartment building facing a park, and I have a great view of the park’s trees from the living room window. I wanted to place the sofa facing the window, but that would mean there would be no wall space to put the TV on. It would be too much of a hassle to have the TV in front of the window all the time. There are movable TV stands available, but the TV has a lot of wires, so it’s difficult to move and it looks unsightly.

So I chose the Panasonic LF1 Layout Free TV. Panasonic has a function called Room Jump Link, which means I can watch content recorded on a Blu-ray recorder without any wiring. With this TV, I only need to run a single power cable, and I can place it in front of a window when I’m watching TV, and easily move it to a corner of the room when I’m not, which is perfect for my needs.

However, this model has a separate tuner that connects wirelessly to the TV itself, meaning the tuner has to be placed somewhere. I also plan to connect a recording HDD to the tuner, and I also have a Blu-ray recorder, so I’ll need furniture to store them. I considered getting by with minimal storage furniture, but then an idea came to mind. I’ve been collecting miniature cars for a while now, but they’re all just sitting in boxes because I don’t have the space to display them, so I thought I could create something that would also serve as a display space for them.

When examining the collection case

Displaying miniature cars requires a storage unit with glass doors. There is furniture for this purpose, and many different types are sold under the name of collection cases. However, most of these are designed to display figurines, and are shallow in depth. Deeper cases tend to be large, and placing one in your living room will make it look like a hobby room.

I wanted something that was not too conspicuous, but would allow me to beautifully display my miniature cars, and ideally, even have internal lighting. Of course, it also needed to be able to store TV equipment. While searching for furniture that met these requirements, I discovered that IKEA had the perfect piece: a model called BESTÅ. This is a storage system that allows you to freely combine several types of boxes, doors, legs, and more.

The box width is basically 60cm, with depths of 20cm and 40cm available. Heights are 38cm and 64cm. Shelves, glass shelves, drawers, etc. can be freely installed in the box, and there are many types of doors to choose from, with a considerable number of types available for glass doors alone. IKEA’s showroom also displays this BESTÅ with lighting added, and although it requires a little work, it is possible to add lighting to it in any way you like. If you add a control unit, you can turn the light on and off with a remote control.

The one I chose was a two-tiered unit measuring 60cm wide and 38cm high, with the doors all made of clear glass and silver metal legs. The bottom half of the bottom tier was used to store TV accessories, while the top tier and the top half of the bottom tier were used to store miniature cars. I added lighting to both the top and bottom tiers so that both could be turned on simultaneously with a remote control. To enhance the texture, the top was also made of glass.

Although it was a bit difficult to assemble, I managed to complete it and put some miniature cars in it. I wasn’t sure what to put in it, but I didn’t want it to look like a miniature car enthusiast’s collection, so I decided to limit it to a few 1/18 scale models rather than a lot of 1/43 scale models.

The four I chose are:

●Auto Art Signature Series Honda RA272

●Genuine Porsche (manufactured by CMC) Porsche 901

●Auto Art Porsche 911 Carrera 1988 model (the one I used to own is a 1989 model, but the interior and exterior colors are exactly the same)

●Genuine Porsche (manufactured by Auto Art) Porsche 917LH 1970 “Psychedelic”

When lined up and lit with incandescent lighting, it creates a wonderful atmosphere that makes you want to have a drink while looking at it. Although it’s purely for my own satisfaction, I think I can recommend BESTÅ to everyone, as it allows you to create a space to your liking at an affordable price.
