Now, when I’m asked again, “What did you buy this year?”, I try to remember, but no one comes to mind. In other words, I feel like I haven’t made any memorable purchases recently. Maybe my desire for material things has pretty much disappeared. No wonder my spending has stagnated. I’m sure I’ve been drinking and eating a lot, though.
I also drove around quite a bit this year. Gasoline and highway tolls add up to a consistent monthly bill of over 300,000 yen. In short, I spent too much on eating, drinking, and traveling, and maybe I just didn’t have enough money to buy things.
So, there’s nothing particularly special I want to report about the items around me, but I’ve been replacing or adding to the same practical or everyday items as usual, buying the same magazines as usual, and buying books that catch my eye (I’ve started buying more e-books).
Among them, there are two products that became “big encounters” for me, regardless of the price. The first is “Alphaness 2,” which has become a hot topic as “Nishikawa Jun’s secret weapon.” Simply put, it is a next-generation sports necklace that regulates the autonomic nervous system by tuning brain waves to a state similar to that of a young person. If you think of it like the cost of a massage, you can recoup your investment in a year, but… It’s a great product, but the fact that I can’t recommend it casually is a flaw.

The second is a car. It’s a BMW 330 Ci Cabriolet (E46). It’s actually my third 46 Cabriolet, and it’s the early model, non-M Sport, that I’ve been looking for for a long time, in gold. It has only 37,000 km on the clock, and is in excellent condition. I found it at Ressence, a car dealership in Kyoto run by car enthusiasts.
But why did he end up owning three cars? Behind the scenes, there was a certain “secret club.” It was a members’ club called “Shiro Kabu” that only owned “E46 Cabriolet” (or Shiro Kabu for short). The number of members now stands at 36 (41 cars in total, including those who have left). This also became a deep topic of conversation in the car world.
What’s interesting about this club is that you can’t join just because you “love the 46 Cabriolet!” For example, if you already love the 46 Cabriolet and own one that you’ve been riding for years, you basically can’t join. You have to buy it in order to participate. You have to love the 46 Cabriolet, but even more than that, you need to have a “passion” to want to participate in the club’s activities. After expressing your intention to join and deciding to buy a 46 Cabriolet, you can try out touring with an introduction from an existing member, and if you’re accepted by the members, you can officially become a member. It’s a bit of a hassle though (laughs).

So you might be thinking, “What’s so interesting about being a member? If you don’t know, there’s no way to keep up the enthusiasm.” But the answer is, “It’s a secret.” They go on tours openly with a line of identical cars, but in reality it’s like a secret club, a mystery. That’s what makes it interesting (although it’s by no means a suspicious club). Let’s just say that the members are an interesting bunch, ranging from a highly skilled (?) coffee shop waiter to a famous manga artist and even a company president.
In short, it is a club that you would not want to join unless you knew someone who was already a member and knew what it was really like. So, the relationship between this club and my 46 Kaburi is quite a strange one. (This is a long story, so I will continue.)
