Larger interior space thanks to an enlarged body

The new Passat’s body size has been increased from the previous model, with the wheelbase extended by 50 mm, resulting in spacious interior and luggage space.
The Volkswagen Passat is a long-selling model with a history of over 50 years since its first debut in 1973. In fact, it has sold over 34 million units, surpassing Volkswagen’s best-selling Beetle.
The new ninth-generation Passat is a wagon-only model, following the trend in its main European market. This time, it adopts the MQB evo architecture, an evolution of the MQB architecture, and incorporates many cutting-edge technologies. The previous adaptive chassis control (DCC) has also been significantly upgraded to DCC Pro, achieving comfort far beyond what was previously possible.
The body has been enlarged from the previous model, giving it a 4.9m body size, equivalent to a class above, making it suitable for a variety of uses and lifestyles. In particular, the wheelbase has been extended by 50mm, improving rear seat comfort and creating a spacious body size that allows multiple passengers to ride comfortably. In addition, the maximum luggage capacity of 1920L is one of the largest of any station wagon sold in Japan.
The entry-level grade is the “Elegance Basic (1.5eTSI only),” which comes standard with all the latest driving assistance systems, including “Travel Assist,” the lane-keeping assist system “Lane Assist,” and the lane-change assist system “Side Assist Plus.”
The “Elegance” comes standard with the original infotainment system “Discover Pro Max” with a large 15-inch touch display and a head-up display. There are three grades of “R-Line” that adopt a special exterior and are equipped with special seats and 19-inch aluminum wheels, for a total of seven grades.
Three highly efficient powertrains, including a PHEV

The power unit lineup includes three types: a 48V mild hybrid, a common rail high-efficiency diesel, and the latest PHEV. The PHEV model achieves a maximum range of 142km in EV mode.
The 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine is a 48V mild hybrid. By using a highly efficient Miller cycle for the combustion process and combining it with an advanced gasoline variable geometry turbo, it achieves both fuel economy and torque response. It also features Active Cylinder Management (ACT), which optimizes control and extends the idle stop time during cylinder deactivation and coasting.
The 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder diesel turbo engine uses a 2200 bar common rail system and is a twin-dosing type with dual SCR injection. It is the latest generation diesel engine that achieves high NOx removal capabilities and excellent response. The Japanese model will be equipped with a TDI engine combined with the full-time 4WD system “4MOTION”.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain “eHybrid” is based on the 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder “eTSI” and is tuned specifically for PHEVs. It delivers a maximum system output of 150kW (203PS) and a maximum torque of 350Nm, and its high-capacity lithium-ion battery (total capacity 25.7kWh, maximum usable capacity during EV driving: 19.7kWh) achieves a maximum EV range of 142km.
