A tribute to racing cars from the 50s and 60s
The Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed, developed as the first in the limited edition Mythos series, pays homage to the open prototype racing cars that were popular in the 1950s and 1960s.
The first in the limited edition “Mythos” series from Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed, is a two-seater fully open car without a windscreen or roof, paying homage to Mercedes-Benz racing cars from the 1950s and 1960s.
The power unit is a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine made by AMG that produces a maximum output of 430 kW (585 PS) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm. It delivers dynamic power and excellent driving performance in any driving environment, including the circuit. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.6 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 315 km/h.
The gearbox is an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission combined with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ AWD system, which intelligently drives all four wheels. The AMG Speedshift MCT 9G uses a wet start-up clutch instead of a torque converter. This allows for significant weight reduction and ensures the highest level of response, especially when starting and under high-load driving conditions.
Production of the Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed will begin in 2025, with only 250 units being sold. Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Siebe explained the Mercedes-AMG Pure Speed as follows:

The bold open design, with no roof or windscreen, leaves nothing separating the driver and passengers from the outside world, allowing them to fully experience the car, the road and the scenery with all five senses.”
“Its striking design reinterprets elements of legendary racing cars and transforms them into an alluring, timeless silhouette. It has the traditional AMG strength of an instantly recognizable presence that makes it a special car. It will inspire drivers and evoke deeply emotional emotions the moment they get behind the wheel.”
Aerodynamics tailored to the roofless style
The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, which omits the windscreen and roof, features advanced aerodynamics that take into consideration comfortable cockpit space, cooling, downforce levels, and more.
The exterior design combines a low-slung, long nose with a distinctive shark nose front section. It also incorporates design elements from the limited-edition hybrid hyper sports car, the Mercedes-AMG ONE, including large air intakes, the iconic “AMG” lettering, and a dark chrome-plated three-pointed star on the nose.
AMG’s aerodynamics team introduced small, transparent deflectors at the front and sides, which help prevent turbulence around the body from bothering the driver and passengers. Sharp carbon-fiber elements on the lower body create a strong contrast with the sensually rounded upper body. The trunk lid and rear diffuser have also been aerodynamically optimised to take into account the roofless body shape.
The 21-inch forged alloy wheels and carbon fiber covers on the front and rear wheel arches create a racing atmosphere. The front cover has an open shape to optimize airflow and brake cooling in the front section.
The optional Motorsport Styling Package changes the car’s finish from Le Mans Red to Graphite Grey with a black AMG pattern, paying homage to the livery of the car that won the Targa Florio race in Sicily 100 years ago, but various other paint finishes are also available.
The “Halo System” introduced by F1
The cockpit is equipped with the “Halo System,” a head protection device familiar from F1. Combined with a special helmet, it protects the passenger in the event of a fall.
To improve cockpit safety, the A-pillars have been replaced with the “HALO system.” This head protection element has been installed on all F1 cars since the 2018 season and protects the driver’s head in the event of an accident. The halo system consists of a dedicated bracket fixed directly to the car body, just like the latest F1 cars.
Two helmets have also been developed specifically for the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, which are aerodynamically optimised and integrated with the Halo system, giving driver and passenger an F1-like view of the road without the obstruction of a roof, windscreen or side windows.
The cockpit features a special color scheme and equipment concept, and the two “flying buttresses” located behind the seats pay homage to the “300 SLR” that Stirling Moss and Dennis Jenkinson drove to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia, setting an astonishing record.
IWC chronograph on the dashboard
The cockpit is equipped with a chronograph specially designed by IWC Schaffhausen.
The dashboard features a special chronograph designed by IWC Schaffhausen, Mercedes-AMG’s watch partner. The glossy black drop-shaped housing is fitted with a naked carbon fiber base. The sophisticated design of the base makes the dial appear to float.
This premium chronograph features an exclusive AMG-inspired dial. For enhanced readability, the dial is beautifully illuminated at dusk or in the dark. The distinctive bezel highlights its affinity with the legendary IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur Collection.
The center console features a special “1 out of 250” badge, indicating that this is a limited edition model. The Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system, equipped with 15 speakers and 1170W of system output, allows you to enjoy a full-scale sound experience with the same immersive quality as an outdoor festival, even while driving.
