Porsche Charging Planner

A system that realizes “fast travel and fast charging”

Many people are still concerned about long-distance travel with EVs. Porsche has introduced the “Porsche Charging Planner,” which integrates route planning and charging systems, to achieve “fast travel, fast charging.”

The Porsche Charging Planner is a dedicated assistance system for fast charging that intelligently controls the charging process on the road. When route guidance is activated, the system helps customers to travel relaxed and without wasting time, even on long journeys.

Thomas Grünther, Charging Project Manager at Porsche AG, explains the usefulness of the Porsche Charging Planner:

“The Porsche Charging Planner is an assistance system for high-speed, long-distance journeys. Electric mobility is now part of everyday life for many people. However, when it comes to long-distance drives, many people still remain skeptical about electric vehicles. The Porsche Charging Planner eliminates these concerns and takes full responsibility for the planned charging process. Our motto is ‘travel fast, charge fast’.”

When the Porsche Charging Planner is activated, the navigation system calculates the fastest and shortest route, taking real-time traffic information into account. At this stage, the desired charging level at the destination can also be entered. If the predicted charging level falls below this target, the Charging Planner will suggest a stop at a charging station to ensure the desired range is achieved.

The proposed route plan takes into account the power available at charging stations and the charging time calculated based on this. The system automatically adapts the amount of energy required for the route to the destination. By deliberately selecting a high-capacity charging station off-route, it is possible to further shorten the overall travel time.

Specify desired charging status upon arrival

When planning a route, it is also possible to specify in advance how much charge you want to leave at charging stations and destinations.

When planning a route, it is also possible to specify in advance how much charge you want to leave at charging stations and destinations.

The Porsche Charging Planner pre-adjusts the battery status to ensure that the maximum available charging capacity is used when stopping at a charging station. The system operates throughout the entire route guidance process, continuously optimizing the route calculation, including stops at charging stations, taking real-time traffic information into account.

Thanks to the local database, the Porsche Charging Planner can also suggest charging station stops offline. As new fast-charging locations open, the system is continually updated to include them in the database. During the journey, the system displays the name of each planned charging station, the battery state of charge on arrival, the estimated time of arrival, and the remaining distance to the charging station in real time in the route overview.

The Porsche Charging Planner adapts to any journey and makes route planning easy, no matter how far you want to travel in your fully electric sports car – an essential assistance system for modern EVs.
