Significantly increased cruising range
Although it varies depending on the grade and specifications, this update has increased the range of the new iX by approximately 6%, bringing the maximum range to 701km.
The BMW iX, which debuted as a fully electric crossover in 2021, has undergone a major update four years after its debut, improving driving performance and adding a longer range of 701km (WLTP cycle: iX xDrive60). Fine-tuning of wheel bearings and tire performance has resulted in a significant improvement in fuel economy in the WLTP cycle, although this varies depending on the grade and equipment.
The updated iX will be available worldwide from spring 2025 in three grades: iX xDrive45, iX xDrive60, and iX M70 xDrive. The main markets will be the US, the UK, and Germany, and production will continue at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing, Germany. At this time, the timing of its introduction to the Japanese market has not been announced.
More powerful exterior design
BMW’s latest design language has been introduced, with revamped front lights and grille designs, resulting in a more powerful exterior.
The exterior design of the improved new iX maintains the characteristic proportions of BMW SAVs while achieving a monolithic appearance with taut surfaces. The front section features a BMW kidney grille with a delicate frame reminiscent of filigree and an internal structure composed of vertical and diagonal lines. The illuminated BMW Iconic Glow Grille (standard on the iX M70 xDrive) is now available as an option.
The headlight design has also been completely redesigned, with vertical elements being used for the daytime running lights and turn indicators. All grades come standard with “adaptive LED headlights” with cornering light function and the newly developed “city light.”
The front and rear aprons have been redesigned to have a seamless design, and the area of body color has been expanded. The optional “M Sport Package” now features front air intakes with powerful lines and vertical reflectors at the rear, emphasizing the iX’s dynamic character. The optional “M Sport Package Pro” is equipped with dark M Shadow Line headlights and taillights.
New exterior colours will be available from summer 2025: Arctic Race Blue Metallic, Dune Grey Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey Metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey Metallic, Tanzanite Blue Metallic and Space Silver Metallic.
Significant improvements in performance and range
The entire power unit has been tweaked, improving performance, including maximum output. The battery has also been improved, significantly extending the driving range.
All grades of the iX are electric all-wheel drive, equipped with electric motors on both the front and rear axles. This time, the drive system has been adjusted, the power electronics have been improved, and maximum output has been increased. The iX xDrive45 has a system output that is increased by 60 kW (83 PS), a maximum output of 300 kW (413 PS), and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h has been reduced by 1.0 second to 5.1 seconds. The iX xDrive60 has a maximum output of 400 kW (551 PS, up 21 PS), and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is now 4.6 seconds. The top speed of both grades is electronically limited to 200 km/h.
The top-grade iX M70 xDrive boasts a maximum output of 485kW (668PS), up 30kW (40PS), and a maximum torque of 1100Nm. This maximum output is achieved when launch control is activated, and boasts an instantaneous acceleration of 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.
Thanks to the latest battery cell technology introduced this time, the battery capacity of the iX xDrive45 has increased by approximately 30% to 94.8 kWh, while the iX xDrive60 has a 109.1 kWh battery and the BMW iX M70 xDrive has a 108.9 kWh battery.
In addition, new inverter technology has been introduced to all grades, optimizing the power density of the drive system. This improves the efficiency of energy transfer from the high-voltage battery to the electric motor, extending the maximum range across all driving zones. The iX xDrive60 achieves a significant increase in range, from 563 km to 701 km, the iX xDrive45 from 490 km to 602 km, and the iX M70 xDrive from 521 km to 600 km.
Interior with the latest digital cockpit
The cockpit, equipped with a BMW Curved Display, is equipped with the latest BMW Operating System 8.5, allowing smooth and efficient use of various digital services, including video streaming and games.
The cockpit is equipped with BMW iDrive, based on the BMW Operating System 8.5. Intuitive operation is possible with the touch functionality of the BMW Curved Display and voice control of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It also supports a variety of digital services, including video streaming and games.
Equipped with 5G and mobile Wi-Fi antennas, it provides optimized and smooth connectivity. Utilizing BMW ID and the My BMW app, it offers a more personalized user experience. The BMW Digital Key also features a setup card that allows for easy entry.
All trim levels come standard with an alarm system, welcome/goodbye animation, Comfort Access, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, Driving Assistant Plus, BMW Live Cockpit Professional and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.
The top-of-the-line iX M70 xDrive comes standard with features such as Integral Active Steering, Adaptive Ride Level Control, BMW Iconic Glow Grille, M Sport Package Pro, and Solar Control Glazing.
