In fact, the Tiguan is more compact.

Lexus NX
Comparing the body size of the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Lexus NX, the NX is about 10 cm longer, but the overall width, height, and wheelbase are almost the same. However, the NX’s overall width exceeds 1850 mm. In urban areas with many mechanical parking lots, you may have to choose where to park.
Although there is probably not much difference in comfort, the interior atmosphere is quite different. Even the cheapest grade of the new Tiguan is equipped with ambient lighting and a meter display using a wide LCD panel, asserting its advanced features. On the other hand, the NX pursues a more classical and luxurious feel.

Downsized turbo engine vs. large-displacement naturally aspirated engine

Lexus NX
Despite its smaller displacement, the Tiguan’s turbocharger allows it to produce torque equivalent to the NX’s 2.5-liter engine at lower revolutions, and the 48V mild hybrid motor assist makes up for the lack of starting torque and instantaneous power. Furthermore, the Tiguan’s fuel economy exceeds that of the NX by actively using cylinder deactivation and coasting while driving.
The NX’s powertrain, which uses a large-displacement naturally aspirated engine and automatic transmission, is considered outdated compared to the latest Tiguan. However, the NX’s ample engine power gives it the depth of a luxury car.

Maximum output = 150PS/5000-6000rpm

Transmission = 7-speed DCT
Drive system = FWD
Lexus NX250
Engine type = Inline 4-cylinder DOHC Gasoline

Maximum output = 201PS/6600rpm
Maximum torque = 241Nm/4400rpm
Transmission = 8-speed AT
Drive system = FWD
The two cars are the same price but in different classes!

Volkswagen Tiguan

Lexus NX
The base grade is priced almost the same. The specs and usability are roughly the same, but the Tiguan’s 48V mild hybrid system and other mechanisms have evolved significantly. There’s a slight generational difference between the NX, which was released in 2021.
However, the NX’s luxury car-like fine finish is at a level that the Tiguan cannot match. The NX exudes a sense of luxury, while the Tiguan, despite its impressive interior and exterior, still retains the feel of a mass-produced car.
However, cars cannot be judged by their luxury alone. In any case, it is certain that the new Tiguan has evolved into an attractive car that can compete with the NX.
