LEXUS RZ550e “F SPORT”
Lexus’ first “steer-by-wire system”

The new RX features a completely redesigned battery EV system, resulting in higher motor output and an extended driving range. It also features a new steer-by-wire system, a first for Lexus.
Since the launch of the RX400h in 2005, Lexus has been a leader in electrification in the luxury car market, and is aiming to achieve a record high of 52% electrified vehicle ratio in 2024. This time, Lexus has implemented a major update to its EV-only model, the RZ, for 2022.
The new and improved RZ features a completely revamped battery EV system, which has resulted in higher motor output, longer driving range, and shorter charging times. The RZ550e “F SPORT” has a driving range of 450km, the RZ500e has a driving range of 500km, and the RZ350e has a driving range of 575km, a 20% increase over the previous model (provisional figures currently under development for the European market).
The car is the first in Lexus history to feature a steer-by-wire system, providing next-generation steering feel and a completely new driving experience. Furthermore, improvements to the platform have refined basic performance, and the characteristics of the DIRECT4 four-wheel drive system, which utilizes electrification technology, have been revised to create a more natural and comfortable driving experience.
Newly introduced “RZ550e “F SPORT””

To coincide with the introduction of this improved new model, a performance specification “RZ550e “F SPORT”” has been added, equipped with high-output motors at the front and rear.
This time, the lineup has been expanded to include the RZ550e “F SPORT”, which has higher output from the front and rear motors and delivers a maximum system output of 300kW (407PS). The RZ550e “F SPORT” is the first Lexus vehicle to be equipped with Interactive Manual Drive, which allows the driver to control the driving force as if operating it manually. Combined with the sound that enhances the exhilaration when shifting gears during acceleration and deceleration, the car is said to have achieved a sporty and direct driving experience.
The exterior features “F SPORT” colors, front and rear spoilers and wheels that improve aerodynamics, while the interior features special seats, aluminum pedals, and a steer-by-wire steering wheel, creating a sporty look.
Shinya Ito, head of Lexus Electrified development at Lexus International, commented on the improved RZ as follows:
“By refining its electrification technologies, Lexus aims to deliver the essential joy of driving and new driving experiences. Our engineers and professional drivers worked together to thoroughly refine the vehicle’s characteristics at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama (TTC-S), a test course that mimics the harsh road conditions of the surrounding area.”
“The new RZ is equipped with a steer-by-wire system that extends electrification technology to the operating systems, providing an intuitive feel on winding roads and maneuverability at low speeds. In addition, the Interactive Manual Drive system, which uses software technology, provides the enjoyment of driving and the value of the experience of interacting with the car.”
