TESLA MODEL Y

The seven-seater EQB and the spacious five-seater Model Y

Comparing the Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 and the Tesla Model Y Long Range, the EQB is an electrified SUV based on the Mercedes-Benz GLB. The black panel grille common to the EQ series on the front face emphasizes its EV-like nature, and the powerful square form gives it an urban SUV-like atmosphere.

On the other hand, the Model Y’s exterior is thoroughly designed with smooth body lines and simple details like a coupe SUV, and its clean design without a front grille stands out.

As for the interior, the EQB emphasizes the luxury that is characteristic of Mercedes-Benz, while the Model Y features a minimalist design that eliminates buttons to the maximum extent possible and the latest digital technology.

Although the EQB lacks the special feeling that only an EV can offer, the interior design makes it easy to use even if you are switching from another Mercedes-Benz. And the EQB’s greatest feature is its three-row seating that can accommodate up to seven people.

All controls for the Model Y’s interior are concentrated on a 15-inch touchscreen, with an 8-inch touchscreen in the center of the rear seat. The interior, which is designed to seat seven people, is spacious and has a high sense of openness. However, the seven-seater version is only available in some regions, and only the five-seater version will be delivered in Japan.

Even with the same AWD + large capacity battery specifications, the Model Y has better performance

The EQB 350 4MATIC, the higher grade of the EQB 250+, employs an AWD system with an additional motor on the rear wheels, increasing the system’s maximum output to 292 PS and maximum torque to 520 Nm. The maximum cruising range in WLTC mode is 490 km, about 60 km shorter than the 250+, but the 350 4MATIC’s distinctive feature is its high-quality ride, which actively utilizes rear-wheel drive.

On the other hand, the detailed motor specifications of the Model Y’s Long Range AWD have not been released, but it still boasts overwhelming acceleration performance. Thanks to the high-output motor and AWD system, the Model Y’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time has been reduced to 4.3 seconds. The EQB 350 4MATIC’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 6.2 seconds, so the difference in power performance with the Model Y is huge.

Furthermore, the Model Y’s range is 635km according to Tesla’s own measurements, which is significantly higher than the EQB in a simple comparison. The Model Y’s powertrain specifications are overwhelmingly superior.

The EQB is a model that combines the practicality of an SUV with the quietness of an EV, while the Model Y is characterized by its agile handling and the high acceleration that only an EV can provide.

Traditional premium EVs and avant-garde minimalist EVs

The Model Y’s excellent cost performance remains strong even in the new model. The EQB, which boasts a higher quality interior and more comprehensive equipment, is priced at over 2.5 million yen more. The EQB, which offers the comfort and safety you expect from a long-established premium car brand, will be a suitable choice for customers who want the practicality of a three-row seating arrangement for family use and the stable driving performance of 4MATIC.

The Model Y, on the other hand, specializes in EV performance and functionality, such as long range, advanced technology, and direct acceleration, making it ideal for users who want both practicality and high performance. Another feature of Tesla, including the Model Y, is the wide range of service value it offers, such as remote software updates via “OTA (Over the Air)” and its proprietary charging system, “Supercharger.”

The Model Y is Tesla’s latest avant-garde car. In comparison, the EQB is considered conservative. However, that is also the beauty of the Mercedes-Benz and the EQB. Both cars are long-range EVs equipped with AWD and large-capacity batteries, but they are truly polar opposites.
