From “Alpina” to “Bovensiepen”

The Bovensiepen family, which will hand over Alpina to BMW in 2025, has launched a new car brand, Bovensiepen.

The Bovensiepen family, which will hand over Alpina to BMW in 2025, has launched a new car brand, Bovensiepen.

The name Bovensiepen comes from Burkard Bovensiepen, who founded Alpina. The business is now led by his sons, Florian and Andreas Bovensiepen, who have now founded a new car brand: Bovensiepen.

In March 2022, Alpina Burkardt Bovensiepen GmbH and BMW AG signed a trademark purchase agreement for the Alpina brand to ensure the long-term survival of the brand. Following this decision, the long-term cooperation between BMW AG and Alpina will end on December 31, 2025, and the “Alpina” trademark will thereafter be owned by BMW AG.

Now, the Bovensiepen family, which has been producing high-tech and excellently designed products as Alpina for decades, has entered into a collaborative relationship with Zagato, known for its high level of craftsmanship, to create the Gran Turismo “Bovensiepen Zagato,” a perfect fusion of German engineering and Italian design sensibilities.

Commenting on the launch of the new brand, Andreas Bovensiepen, CEO of Bovensiepen Automobile, said: “Our target was to create cars for enthusiasts who appreciate the perfect symbiosis of design and technology.”

Although it has not been officially revealed, it is based on the BMW 4 Series and features Zagato’s traditional double bubble roof.

The Bovensiepen Zagato, which was unveiled at the Fuori Concorso, is not just a fusion of Italian design and German technology, but also expresses the strong connection between Bavaria and Milan, where the two companies are based. The exterior design, including its elegant proportions, is unmistakably a reflection of Zagato’s heritage.

Many sophisticated details have been introduced, including Zagato’s signature double bubble roof, long nose, sculpted volumes, stainless steel front grille, elegant pillarless windows, integrated rear spoiler, and aerodynamic air outlets.

Norihiko Harada, chief designer at Zagato, explains the Bovensiepen Zagato as follows:

“The Bovensiepen Zagato combines the sensual and soft design of Italy with the architectural strength of Germany. In a sense, it’s a beautiful fusion of two automotive cultures.”

We are incredibly proud to be designing the first car for this new brand. Our project with the Bovensiepen family continues our tradition of combining Zagato DNA with that of new and exciting brands.
