The 911 GT3 inherits the traditional Porsche style

The Porsche 911 GT3 has been a popular addition to the 911 lineup, striking a high level of balance between motorsport-derived DNA and everyday usability. The lineup includes two specifications: the circuit-focused 911 GT3 with the rear wing featured in this article, and the comfort-focused 911 GT3 Touring Package.

While the 911 GT3 has the traditional RR (rear engine and rear drive) style inherited from the 365, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ Coupe has a conventional long nose and short deck with the power unit located at the front.

In terms of dimensions, the AMG GT 63 Coupe is 160mm longer and has a wheelbase 243mm longer than the 911 GT3, but the 911 GT3, which does not have an AWD system and has been made lighter, is 461kg lighter in terms of vehicle weight.

High traction performance with “4MATIC+”

The 911 GT3 is equipped with a traditional horizontally opposed 6-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine boasting a maximum output of 510 PS and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. The AMG GT 63 is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 gasoline twin-turbo engine that produces a maximum output of 585 PS, which is 75 PS more than the 911 GT3. Taking advantage of the turbocharger, the maximum torque is also squeezed out at 800 Nm, which is 350 Nm more than the AMG GT 63.

Both models have a top speed of over 300 km/h. In terms of acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63, which makes use of the powerful power and torque as well as the high traction performance of the 4MATIC+ system, beat the 911 GT3 by 0.2 seconds. Incidentally, the 911 GT3 is also available with a 6-speed manual transmission, which has a top speed of 313 km/h, slightly higher than the 7-speed PDK version.

Highway speeds or circuit attacks?

The 911 GT3, which has a roll cage and a cockpit focused on driving, uses a simple meter display so that the rev counter and stopwatch can be read instantly even during intense driving. The AMG GT 63 has a luxurious interior with a large, modern display at the center and extensive use of chrome accents.

The two cars are in almost the same price range, with the 911 GT3 priced at 28.68 million yen and the AMG GT 63 at 27.52 million yen. However, the AMG GT 63 is designed for comfortable long-distance travel, while the 911 GT3 is primarily designed for the circuit, making them the polar opposites.
