The exterior pays homage to Volkswagen’s iconic Type 2, with a large “VW” logo and a V-shaped front panel.

Following the “Beetle (Type 1),” the origin of Volkswagen, which began mass production in 1945, the “Type 2,” which began mass production in 1950, combined Beetle technology with a reinforced chassis and has a history of being loved in Japan as the “Volkswagen Bus.” The VW Bus remains a classic Volkswagen model, with many fans around the world.

The ID. Buzz, a Volkswagen bus reborn with the latest fully electric powertrain technology, has been generating great anticipation for its release since the concept car was unveiled in 2017. Now that the long-awaited ID. Buzz has begun its introduction into the Japanese market, it is expected to play a major role as a future Volkswagen brand icon.

What makes the ID. Buzz unique are the iconic design elements that are incorporated into every detail: the short overhangs, the large VW logo on the front face, the classic sliding window with a modern twist, and the iconic front face with a V-shaped front panel between the LED headlights, which pays homage to the timeless design of the Volkswagen Bus.

The ID. Buzz is produced at Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle division’s plant in Hannover, Germany. It is currently the only multi-passenger fully electric MPV available for purchase in the Japanese market. Designed based on Volkswagen’s proprietary fully electric powertrain, the MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix), the ID. Buzz is the second member of the ID. family, following the fully electric SUV, the ID. 4, and will play an important role at the core of Volkswagen’s e-mobility strategy in the Japanese market.

Two wheelbase options available

"Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro" and "Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro Long Wheelbase".

The Japanese market will have two models in its lineup: a seven-seater “Long Wheelbase (LWB)” with a 2-3-2 layout and a wheelbase extended by approximately 250 mm, and a “Normal Wheelbase (NWB)” with a 2-2-2 layout.

The lineup includes two models: a six-seater “Normal Wheelbase (NWB)” with a 2-2-2 layout and a walk-through center second row, and a seven-seater “Long Wheelbase (LWB)” with a 2-3-2 layout and a wheelbase extended by approximately 250 mm.

Both specifications pursue a spacious lounge-like atmosphere and passenger comfort and convenience. The interior is characterized by maximum use of space, ensuring not only passenger living space but also ample luggage space. The long wheelbase model has a maximum luggage capacity of 2,469 liters, and the removable third row seats allow for a variety of configurations.

The power sliding doors and tailgate are equipped with an easy-open and close function, allowing the doors to be opened and closed even when both hands are full, making it easier for passengers to get in and out and for loading and unloading luggage.

Equipped with two types of battery capacity

The long-wheelbase model is equipped with a 91kWh battery, while the standard-wheelbase model is equipped with an 84kWh battery, ensuring a maximum cruising range of 554km.

The ID. Buzz is powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 210 kW (286 PS) and a maximum torque of 560 Nm, which drives the rear wheels. By integrating the battery into the floor, excellent weight distribution and a low center of gravity are achieved. In addition, aerodynamic performance has been pursued, achieving a Cd value (air resistance coefficient) of 0.285.

The battery is 91kWh (84kWh for the standard wheelbase) and has a DC (direct current) fast charging capability of 140-150kW. The long wheelbase model has a driving range of 554km (WLTC mode) on a single charge, while the standard wheelbase model has a driving range of 524km.

If you purchase a new D. Buzz and complete the information registration on the PCA (Premium Charging Alliance) app, you will be able to charge it for up to one year at unlimited fast chargers in the Volkswagen Group (Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche) authorized dealer network free of charge.
