Although there are differences between the four-door coupe and sedan, practicality is almost equal.

Audi S3 Sedan
The 2 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door coupe based on the BMW 1 Series. The new model’s body dimensions are almost the same as the previous model, measuring 4550mm long, 1800mm wide, and 1435mm high. While there are no major changes to the interior space or luggage compartment, the interior and exterior of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe have been revamped with BMW’s latest design theme, greatly increasing functionality and sophistication. Another notable feature is that despite being a four-door coupe, it still has enough space in the back seat to comfortably seat three adults and a practical trunk capacity.
On the other hand, the “S3” is a high-performance model based on the “A3” sedan model, and its shortened rear overhang, combined with the lowered vehicle height of the sports suspension, gives it a coupe-like feel. The body dimensions are 4505mm long, 1815mm wide, and 1415mm high, almost the same as the 2 Series Gran Coupe, and there is not much difference in interior space.
Although both are high-performance models, there are few visual differences between them and the standard model, with the only noticeable differences being the small decorative details and a small trunk spoiler.

A high-performance model reminiscent of the golden age of European sedans

Both powertrains consist of a high-output 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine and electronically controlled AWD to make the most of it.
The engine specs are almost equal, with the 2 Series Gran Coupe producing 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque, while the S3 is slightly higher at 333 PS and 420 Nm. Since the two cars have similar engine specs, it’s easy to see the differences between the drive systems that control the transmission and AWD.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe is newly equipped with the “M Sport Boost function,” and all settings are switched to performance-priority mode by simply pulling the left paddle shift for one second. The S3 also features sporty engine management and the acclaimed Quattro AWD system, which has been adjusted to operate with appropriate characteristics for a high-performance model.
In recent years, European cars have become more efficient by using low-revving, high-torque engines with DCT and mild hybrid systems. However, these two cars, with their ample engine power, have little to do with such gimmicks. Their relaxed driving performance retains the atmosphere of the old German sedans.

A four-door coupe and sedan that strongly reflect the commitment of both brands

Audi S3 Sedan
The 2 Series Gran Coupe “M235i xDrive” is priced at 7.34 million yen, while the Audi S3 is priced at 7.71 million yen. The price difference is only 370,000 yen. BMWs tend to be more expensive than Audis when it comes to models in the same class, but this is not the case for high-performance models.
The powertrain specs are roughly the same, and both are plenty fast. Since they’re both expensive cars, if you’re unsure which one to choose, it’s best to test drive them yourself.
However, while the two have similar characteristics, one is a four-door coupe and the other a sedan. The S3 uses standard sash doors, while the 2 Series Gran Coupe has sashless doors. Of course, each door shape has its advantages and disadvantages, but the 2 Series Gran Coupe has a more exclusive feel.
