BMW M2 CS
13 seconds improvement in lap time over two years

The new M2 CS has improved the time of 7 minutes 38.7 seconds recorded by the M2 in 2023 by 13 seconds, and has also taken the title of fastest commercially available compact car in the class.
On April 11, 2025, BMW M brought the new BMW M2 CS to the Nürburgring Nordschleife for a time attack. Development engineer Jörg Weidinger drove the camouflaged M2 CS, completing the 20.823 km course, said to be the most grueling in the world, in 7 minutes 25.5 seconds, beating the previous lap record for the compact production car class held by the Audi RS 3 by 8 seconds.
The previous record for the fastest lap on the Nordschleife for an M2 was 7 minutes 38.7 seconds, set by Weidinger in April 2023. Two years later, he improved his own record by 13 seconds, breaking the class record of 7 minutes 30 seconds for the first time. BMW M’s mid-class production M4 CS, M4 CSL and M3 CS have all broken the 7 minutes 30 second mark, with the M4 CSL holding the fastest lap time of any BMW Group production car at 7 minutes 18.137 seconds.
François van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH, expressed his delight at the new record:
“The new M2 CS achieved a lap time of 7 minutes 25.5 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, proving that outstanding performance, technology and driving dynamics can be combined into one car. We are proud that the M2 CS has set a new standard in the compact production car class.”
