Successor to the hugely successful Huracán GT3

The decision to introduce the GT3 specification for the Temerario was made from the early stages of its development as the successor to the Huracán GT3, of which over 200 units were sold worldwide and competed in various series.

Lamborghini’s motorsport division, Squadra Corse, has developed the Temerario GT3 customer racing car based on the Temerario, the successor model to the Huracán, which was announced in 2024. It will replace the Huracán GT3 Evo 2 currently active in GT series around the world and will be introduced into races from the 2026 season.

In accordance with GT3 regulations, the car is fitted with an improved aluminum space frame chassis that can withstand high-load racing and meets maintenance requirements. The base model is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, with the hybrid powertrain removed, and a redesigned turbocharger has been added to the supercharging system to deliver peak performance under racing conditions.

Development will be completed during the 2026 season, after which sales will begin to customers worldwide, with the car’s debut scheduled for the 12 Hours of Sebring in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in March 2026. Lamborghini is committed to continuing to provide technical support to all customer teams that continue to race the Huracán GT3 during the Telemerio GT3 transition period.

Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, commented on the launch of the Temerario GT3:

“The Temerario GT3 was developed as the first motorsport model in the Temerario project. This shows that Lamborghini will continue to use motorsport as an important tool for brand promotion.”

“The Huracán GT3 project has been a huge sporting and commercial success, with 96 wins around the world and over 200 units sold. This has led us to envision a racing derivative of the Temerario from the very early stages of its development. We are confident that the Temerario GT3 will set the benchmark for its rivals, just as the road-going Temerario did.”

Due to GT3 regulations, a hybrid system cannot be installed, so the powertrain is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with improved turbo and compressor.

The aluminium spaceframe chassis is taken from the Temerario production line and is designed to reduce weight and simplify the installation. The frame in particular has been simplified to allow the front and rear subframes to be quickly removed and refitted during pit stops. The removable rear subframe was specially developed by Squadra Corse and houses the engine and new transmission components.

The brackets that supported the hybrid components in the production version have all been removed, as hybrids cannot be used in the race version. A roll cage that complies with FIA GT3 safety regulations is attached to the center of the aluminum frame. The front subframe has also been modified, and the electric motor, the Temerario’s most distinctive feature, has been removed.

The car is fitted with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, developed by Lamborghini and derived from production vehicles, mounted in the rear mid-mounted position. The turbocharger and compressor unit were newly developed for the Temerario GT3. Although this has been subject to changes due to BoP (balance of performance), maximum output has been reduced from 800 PS for the road-going model equipped with a hybrid system to 550 PS.

Greatly improved maintainability during races

In developing the chassis and body components, emphasis was placed on maintainability during the race preparation period and during actual competition.

The bodywork makes extensive use of carbon composite materials to achieve maximum weight reduction. This bodywork was developed jointly by Squadra Corse’s aerodynamics team and Lamborghini’s design department, Centro Stile. It maintains the distinctive design of the production model while meeting the requirements of the new engine and brake cooling system. It also achieves the optimal aerodynamic balance of downforce and drag.

The bodywork is designed to allow for quick disassembly and assembly during race week, significantly reducing repair time in the event of an accident during the race. The front and rear bodywork components are made up of a single part, and the rear diffuser, engine cover, and bonnet can also be easily removed. A quick connector system is used for the headlights, allowing them to be removed quickly as well.

The fuelling system has been revised to improve fuel flow to the tank. The fuel tank has also been redesigned to allow the use of a new fuel sensor that accurately measures the remaining fuel level. Optimised aerodynamics have improved stability under braking and updated balance during cornering. The front radiator design has also been revised to improve airflow to the radiators.

The cockpit layout was developed in collaboration with Lamborghini works drivers Marco Mapelli and Andrea Caldarelli, whose feedback was essential in optimizing the ergonomics, control layout and operation for high-performance driving. The cockpit electronics have also been updated to the latest specifications, and the steering wheel has been specially designed based on feedback from works and customer drivers.
