While Gordon Murray Automotive mass-produces sports models, Gordon Murray Special Vehicles manufactures limited edition models, special edition vehicles, and custom-ordered one-off models.

The UK-based Gordon Murray Group (GMG) has established a new division called Gordon Murray Special Vehicles (GMSV). On August 15th, at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering in Monterey, California, the company made its world debut with two vehicles developed by GMSV.

The new company, GMSV, will redefine bespoke models by automakers and pursue driver-centric design, while respecting the legacy of Gordon Murray. While the previously established Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) develops and produces premium mass-produced models, GMSV will respond to demand from Murray enthusiasts, collectors, and innovative visionaries by producing limited edition, special edition, and custom-order one-off models inspired by tradition.

GMSV chose Monterey Car Week 2025 as the launch venue for the company, where two cars from the company’s two lines, “SV Design” and “Bespoke,” made their world premieres: the “GMSV S1 LM” and the “GMSV Le Mans GTR GTR.” Both cars pay homage to Murray’s passion for endurance racing and the McLaren F1 GTR that won the overall championship at Le Mans in 1995.

A reinterpretation of the 1995 Le Mans winning car

The GMSV S1 LM, a limited edition custom model of just five units, pays homage to the car that won the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The GMSV S1 LM is the first custom model created by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles (GMSV). The “S1” stands for “Special One,” and represents the client’s passion for 1990s design and the legendary victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The target of this project was to pursue the seven principles set forth by Gordon Murray, with particular emphasis on “Exclusivity,” “Return to beauty,” “Engineering art,” “Lightweightness,” and “Driving perfection.”

Gordon Murray, founder and chairman of the Gordon Murray Group, had this to say about the S1 LM:

“I love timeless design. I don’t want to join the race to create an extreme-looking super sports car at the expense of balance, beauty and proportions. Look at the result: this car is timeless and beautiful, isn’t it?”

Based on the McLaren F1 GTR, the car features a lowered roofline. All body panels are constructed from ultra-lightweight carbon fiber. The S1 LM’s exclusive aero package, front splitter, rear diffuser, and dual-element rear wing provide significant downforce and stability. The front and rear feature exclusive lighting inspired by the 24 Hours of Le Mans, seamlessly blending into the sculpted bodywork.

Equipped with a dedicated 4.3-liter V12 engine

The rear-mounted engine is a specially developed 4.3-liter V12 engine that produces a maximum output of over 700 PS.

Based on Gordon Murray’s philosophy that “the engine is the heart of the vehicle and at least half of the experience,” the S1 LM is equipped with a strengthened power unit. By removing the rear fan and oil cooling pack, space was created to install a specially tuned 4.3-liter V12 engine.

This engine achieves a maximum output of over 700 PS and is enclosed in a specially developed Inconel exhaust system and 18-karat gold heat insulation. Engine development has resulted in weight reduction of internal components and an increase in compression ratio, resulting in significant improvements in power, torque, and response. The V12 engine, which can rev up to 12,100 rpm, produces beautiful harmony from four centrally located tailpipes, paying homage to the 1995 Le Mans winning car.

The 6-speed manual transmission uses the case and internal parts of the GMA T.50. Optimizing the link mechanism and settings has resulted in a comfortable short stroke. The suspension has also been specially designed, with new geometry, a lowered ride height, and special damper settings. This provides a sharper, more planted driving experience.

GMSV’s bespoke division will build just five road-legal S1 LMs, with deliveries due to begin in 2026 for an undisclosed price.

A tribute to long-tail racing cars

The GMSV Le Mans GTR pays homage to the long-tail racing car that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race that Gordon Murray himself has always admired.

The GMSV Le Mans GTR pays homage to the long-tail Le Mans racing car. Its design was inspired by classic long-tail cars from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, inheriting the timeless design of iconic models such as the Matra-Simca MS660, Porsche 917 and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3. Murray explained the design of the Le Mans GTR as follows:

“Long-tail racing cars perfectly combine aerodynamic advantages with aesthetic balance. I have always been fascinated by the combination of high technology and sleek design. The Le Mans GTR is a timeless reinterpretation of the long-tail racer I have admired since I began designing cars, combining modern aerodynamics with our expertly designed chassis, engine and transmission.”

The GMSV platform, developed based on the T.50, combines driving performance on both public roads and circuits. It is equipped with a high-revving GMA V12 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission, and almost all of the vehicle has been redesigned.

The streamlined form, featuring enhanced “passive boundary layer control,” achieves extremely low drag levels. The front splitter, side skirts, and twin-channel rear diffuser create maximum ground effect. The rear-mounted fan featured on the T.50 and T.50s is no longer used, but a full-width rear wing is installed, creating a high-speed, high-grip package.

Limited production of 24 units in commemoration of the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The GMSV Le Mans GTR is a homage to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and will be limited to just 24 units.

For drivers who drive on the circuit, the car features a high-rigidity, lightweight suspension, wide tread, large tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2), an enhanced cooling system, and optimized front-to-rear weight balance. The addition of large air vents at the front and sidepod intakes to the rear fenders also improves engine and transmission cooling performance.

The GMSV Le Mans GTR will be produced in a limited run of 24 units as a tribute to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The price has not been disclosed, and all 24 units were already sold out at the time of the announcement. Development is currently underway at GMSV, with the first customer vehicle scheduled for completion in 2026.
