In 2025, GM will unveil a series of Corvette-themed design concepts, with the Corvette CX Concept (pictured) and the Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo being the final models in the series.

Chevrolet unveiled two concept cars that hint at the future of the Corvette, the Corvette CX Concept and the Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, at the motorsports festival The Quail. While the two cars are purely design concepts not intended for mass production, they are said to preview the design of the Corvette that will be released in the future.

The Corvette CX Concept was designed and built at the Chevrolet Performance Studio in Warren, Michigan, USA. The Corvette CX Concept and Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo will mark the finale of a series of Corvette concepts created by General Motors’ global design studios in 2025.

Chevrolet Executive Design Director Phil Zak added the following about the two concept cars:

“The Corvette has always been expressive and forward-thinking. Every edge and line can be traced back to our past. It’s the aspiration, the culture, the reason people want to work at Chevrolet. The CX Concept and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo are the result of our design team freeing themselves from the constraints of a production vehicle and unleashing their creativity. Through this work, we’ve been able to add new elements to the Corvette design and clarify its future direction.”

Fully electric AWD with a motor on each wheel

Chevrolet unveiled the Corvette CX Concept and Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo at The Quail during Monterey Car Week.

The Corvette CX Concept (foreground) is equipped with a fully electric all-wheel drive powertrain with a motor on each wheel, with a maximum output expected to exceed 2000 PS.

The Corvette CX Concept was designed as a “future Corvette” that offers the ultimate high-performance driving experience on the open road or track. Its forward-jutting nose, horizontal lines separating the integrated upper and lower bodywork, and dual-element taillights are design elements common to Corvettes to this day. Its low, slim stance keeps the overall height to just 41 inches (1041 mm).

The fighter jet-inspired cockpit canopy was developed in collaboration with GM Motorsports Aero Group to maximize aerodynamic performance at high speeds. The lower body features a “vacuum fin system” that draws air through the open-channel bodywork, generating massive downforce. Airflow over the rear diffuser is also adjusted in real time to achieve aerodynamic balance across the entire body.

The powertrain is fully electric and all-wheel drive, with a motor mounted on each wheel. The maximum system output exceeds 2000 PS, and the four-wheel torque vectoring system ensures maximum grip and cornering performance. The 90kWh lithium-ion battery is integrated into the chassis, achieving a low center of gravity and ideal front-to-rear weight distribution.

The canopy extends forward like a fighter jet cockpit, and the two-seat interior is finished in Inferno Red ballistic textile.

A fighter jet-style canopy extends forward and automatically raises as the vehicle approaches, and driver and passenger settle into seats finished in Inferno Red ballistic textile, specifically designed to hold occupants securely in place even during high-G cornering.

Inside, premium silicone leather, milled aluminum, and low-gloss forged carbon fiber accents create a luxurious, driver-focused cabin. The digital windscreen displays real-time performance data and doubles as an immersive surround display. All controls are integrated into the steering wheel.

Hybrid race spec

The Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with three electric motors.

For more than 25 years, the Corvette production car program has worked hand in hand with its motorsports program, Corvette Racing. The close relationship between production and race cars has fostered technological feedback between production and motorsports.

This time, Chevrolet’s design team has created the Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, a race-spec car based on the Corvette CX Concept. This racing car, which imagines the future of Corvette GT racing, can be raced by players in the PlayStation game Gran Turismo 7.

The exterior embodies Corvette’s history while hinting at the future of racing cars. The livery is the yellow and black works livery that has graced Corvette GT racing cars for 25 years. To enhance downforce and grip levels on the circuit, the car has been lowered and the active aero has been updated, further improving performance levels.

The powertrain combines a 2.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with over 900 PS on its own and three electric motors, for a maximum system output of over 2000 PS. The V8 engine, powered by renewable energy-derived e-fuel, drives the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Two motors are installed on the front axle and one in the transmission.

General Motors (GM) Chevrolet will add the Corvette ZR1X, which combines a 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine with the eAWD all-wheel drive system, starting in the 2026 model year. The system delivers a maximum output of 1,267 PS and achieves 0-60 mph acceleration in under two seconds. The Corvette ZR1X will be handcrafted by master engine builders at the Bowling Green Performance Build Center, and details regarding pricing and sales launch will be announced closer to the start of production.
