American billionaire buys the highest price ever for a new car

Ferrari and RM Sotheby’s will jointly hold a charity auction at Monterey Car Week in 2025. The auction will feature a one-off “Daytona SP3 Taylor Made,” an additional production run of the already sold-out limited edition “Daytona SP3” (599 units).

The Daytona SP3 Tailor Made is finished through Ferrari’s bespoke and customisation programme, with a two-tone exterior that combines gloss carbon and Giallo Modena. The front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser are all gloss carbon, and for the first time, the car features the Ferrari logo covering the entire body.

The interior is finished in Q-Cycle, a sustainable fabric made from recycled tire material, and features yellow seat belts and an embroidered prancing horse motif.

The purchase price of the car, a record for a new Ferrari, was $26 million, paid by Dr. Herbert Wertheim, an ophthalmologist, entrepreneur, and billionaire. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Ferrari Foundation, which will use the proceeds for various educational projects.
